Sushi-mori: Sydney, AUSTRALIA

Sushi-mori: Sydney, AUSTRALIA.jpg

Travelling to Sydney means that I tend to eat quite a bit of Asian food.... which is great for me, as I do find the rice dishes to be quite soothing and less heavy on my stomach than other foods. And if I have a choice, I tend to gravitate to the Japanese places... again, it does tend to agree better with me than some of the heavier Asian styles of cooking. Although, the places that serve the raw egg broken on rice are really bad for me!

... and Sydney has no shortage of places to discover. This particular restaurant (Sushi-mori) is quite close to Sydney Central Station on the Surry Hills side. I've walked past it quite a few times coming and going to the train station... but this time, I was staying a place down the road, and so I figured that I would just drop in a see what it was like!

The Space

At the time that I visited, it was quite full of workers finishing up for the day, and single people at tables... well, sort of like me! It isn't a large place, and I suspect that most of the people aren't really spending a long time in the place... in fact, I think that there were only two larger (about 6 people) groups that stayed for a long period of time, and I think that that was more an afterwork thing. Most of the diners seemed to be grabbing a little bite to eat on the way to the train station.

The Menu

Japanese staples... sushi, and cooked foods... everything pretty much what you would expect from a little hole in the wall Japanese place like this! At dinner time, I'm more likely to order a set or something like that instead of sushi. I'm still convinced that sushi by itself isn't really a meal... perhaps a snack at best!

The Food

... and here we are, a Terayaki Wagyu beef with rice and miso soup. It was really quite decent, but in the end I was still a bit hungry. It wasn't quite as filling as I had hoped... and I did pick up an ice-cream on the way back to my hotel. Next time, I will order something that resembles a set instead of a single rice dish!

The Experience

Quite a comfortable eating experience... decent quality food, but a touch pricey. There wasn't a great deal of space in the indoor seating area... which wasn't a problem this time, but I could imagine that it would be impossible to sit at busier times.

Portion do look a bit small although prices compare to Panama are very similar, I love sushi and agree that Japanese food most of the time go easy on the stomach, you dont end up feeling like you going to explode, I cant eat that much out for that reason, very often get stomach sick but for the most part sushi goes well with me 😎

I sort of enjoy the smaller portion... if it is there on the plate, I feel obliged to eat it... and then I start to feel bloated!

It is a good thing that you love the quality of their food. It is truly expensive especially their drinks

What a great selection of Asian dishes can be found in this restaurant, too bad you were not satisfied with yours, next time ask for something different.
