Sitting through another Meeting...
Sigh... I still can't believe that sitting through meetings is a sort of thing that most people do.. without mass bloodshed! Honestly, if I had to do this on a regular basis, I would definitely be either tearing my head off... or preferably tearing holes in other people instead.
So... if I understand correctly, the purpose of meetings appear to be stating the bloody obvious at length and possibly repetitively, making little to no sense with overuse of jargon, throwing the actual responsibility and thinking to others, and then big-noting and name-dropping. All of which could be done in private without wasting all the other people's time.
After all, you should just get the important people together in a small room with minimal ventilation to just talk amongst themselves whilst the rest of us move on blissfully unaware of their importance... and just getting things done. But no, we have to listen to them...
I am aware that I'm really lucky throughout my life to have essentially NEVER dealing with this sort of meaningless crap.. and I'm doubly glad that I soon will never have to deal with this again. I have definitely come to the realisation that performing and actually doing things, is a whole lot more fun than talking about things and being the most puffed up person in the room... although, I have to say, it is quite amusing when there is a puffing up competition... and sort of tedious when there is a circle-jerk.
I tend to plead without the camera and will say the minimal things possible... partly because there are people who much prefer their own voices, and also because nothing that I say essentially will be listened to. There is much certainty in the correctness of the metrics and jargon that is hilarious... if this wasn't real life! Plus, I fear that if I let myself talk at length... I won't know the correct protocol to politely point out sheer incompetence!
So... better to keep a low profile... camera and microphone off... and only speak when I need to. As in, I'm directly addressed... otherwise, I can just quietly slam my head into the table in peace.
My wife does come in and laugh her head off at times... and I was toying up whether to do a live-blogging of all the meaningless crap that was being bandied around... there was one particular amusing incident of a complete impasse... with a simple solution. But woods for the trees...
... but in the end, I thought that that would be a bit inappropriate... and so I stuck to reading a comic book instead... whilst keeping a half ear cocked out for the input prompts.
So, in the end... I survived, and left the meeting before there could be the obligatory private congratulations and discussions that needed to have an audience. Spew...
Honestly, I felt like much longer than an hour was drained from my life... but I guess, I am still able to keep a bit of distance from it all. And when you do, it is hilariously absurd that grown adults play this stupid game! It really feels like most of us never really left the student intrigues of primary school... okay, well, it is a little bit more involved than who is playing kiss-chasey with who... but not really that much more evolved!
I have talked to other family members who don't work regular "office" jobs.. and a good bulk of them are also bewildered by the whole thing. They see the whole thing as a joke... and for some of them who changed careers to be tradesmen creating actual things... well, they have found that they enjoy work and life much more. So, I feel like there is a lot of busy-work to keep the children occupied in the offices... whilst the grown adults go out and build stuff and craft things... or do performances!
Honestly, if anyone pointed out the horrible facade that is "work"... well, society would collapse! But we keep the delusion going... work, to money, to grave. Hopefully, there will be someone that will have appreciated who big-noted that they are... and who they know or have worked with. It will be recorded for all time... apparently, it is important! Or we are all idiots... I can't remember which it is!

The one time I worked in an office I attended a couple of the meetings, and the third or fourth time they called the meeting I asked "Any front end stuff?" they were like "...probably not?" so I said I was going to stay where I was because I was the only front end dev and there was a lot of work (which I was fine to stay on top of on my own if I was allowed to stay on top of it XD).
How high in management are you doing this meeting at? As usually the meetings I've been involved in is just finding out how everyone is going with their workloads and if stuff needs to be shuffled around in case some people need help with things. No direct experience but from what I've heard the higher up in management you go the more ridiculous and convoluted it gets and while some of that might just come with the territory it definitely doesn't help with the impression that they're just trying to justify their existence.
Music organisations are weird... there are those with job titles, the rest of us are just musicians... and for some reason, in some organisations, they think that they should mix.
So... I'm always crazily confused... I'm a musician, I play music good. Not sure what all the other crap in the job descriptions mean!
Haha my job involves meetings multiple times per day every single day. It’s not bad in my sector of work as the meetings are largely productive but it’s a big change from the job I did many years ago where we had no meetings except once a month lol. I feel your pain at pointless ones!
Haha... as a musician, I don't think I have ever had to do these.... but we do have our fair share of blathering and unproductive rehearsals!
