Earlier in the week (or was that last week??? time moves quite differently when your other half is away and you are juggling kids as well as the regular life and household stuff...).... anyway, earlier in some week... I started to fill up the wicking beds with water... and man, they do take quite a LOT of water!

But I did start to notice that some of the overflows were leaking water through their joints.... some just with tiny little drips, and and the two bigger ones were slightly more noticeable. So... in the interests of keeping the water on the inside, I figured that I should at least try to seal them!

After trying to seal them just with the screws and bands that were already there in the very confined space, I gave up on that idea and figured that I would just use a sealant instead.

... and I picked up the stuff that I needed. I opted for a Storm Sealant from Selleys.... it would be on the outside, so soil and water contamination wasn't really going to be a big deal. But I chose it mostly for the ability to apply to wet surfaces... and the overflow area was quite wet!

Add to that, my trusty battery operated squeezing thingy... I have relatively weak hands, as so I've never really been able to use the manual ones. But since talking to my in-laws, it appears that I've not really helped things by making too small a cut in the end of the sealant applicator! Or they are just being nice...

So, this was one of the problem areas... with the water dripping out between the white and black sections... and unfortunately, no amount of trying to tighten the band was making any difference at all. And as you can see, it was a pretty tight space to try and get a screwdriver or a wrench in to turn the bolt/screw to tighten the band.

All attached and ready to go! With a nice big slash in the end this time!

Yep... so, getting a sealant nozzle into the confined space was also going to be a real pain in the arse! And so I ended just lathering it on and then using my gloves to spread it around! Messy... but it seemed to work.

... and the subsequent ones were less messy!

But oh man... lots of silicone all over the gloves... and it is really quite sticky and tacky stuff! Also... seeing as the thing was already still leaking, it wasn't quite forming a full seal and I figure that with the 48 hour curing time... it won't be quite fixed... so, I will apply a second layer to make sure that it is properly sealed... and that is going to be one hell of a hack job! At least it is clear... and you can't really see the mess that badly!

Here is one of the nicer ones... the small ones were easier to do as I could easily see everything and the nozzle was able to fit directly onto the areas that I needed to seal!

Anyway, I wonder what my wife will think when she gets home?
