The little one was home with an upset tummy these last couple of days, and I figured that she could come out and help with some light gardening work... mostly just fixing up some supports for the tomatoes and other plants. Better than being cooped up instead feeling sorry for herself!

Anyway, our tomatoes are growing quite rapidly due to the mix of heavy rain and heavy Sun! And they have already got to the point where they need a bit of support.

I already had a decent support for tomatoes in our shed... so, I pulled that out for one of the plants... and then I made a run for the garden centre to see if it was worth getting a few more... or to just use the existing bamboo sticks that we already had... and I had to go anyway for a few other things, like supports for the climbing roses.

... and these things are more expensive than they need to be... so, I ended up opting for the bamboo sticks for the moment!

And here we go... the little on planted the sticks in, and I tied the plants up... even if it is small stuff, it is nice to be out in the garden with the kids! Just doing things together!

Next on the list of light tasks to do was the climbing roses... I had had small trellises when they were first planted... and the idea was to attach a line to the wall to help train them up. But after seeing how they were growing, I figured that a single line wasn't really going to be wide enough, and I opted for a tall diamond trellis instead. It will do for the moment, but it is likely that I'll need to attach a line for the last bits...

... and of course, the first thing was to untangle the roses from the small trellises... something that was for me to do, whilst the young one held the trellis!

Yep, these roses (and everything else in the garden...) have been growing fast in the last couple of months... they were starting to droop back down as they weren't strong enough to hold their weight, and there wasn't anything for them to grasp onto.

... but now they have taller trellis, and I might end up getting two more for each rose, so that I can put then on the sides as well. The little one was helping be plant the trellises and also to cut the garden wires as well.

They do look much tidier, and they will have a bit more light and space to grow, hopefully firming up a base if I trim them back a bit later in the year!

The kiwi vine also needed a bit of a support to help train it a bit further over the area that it will eventually cover! A bit of a ladder work, and the little one was cutting the wires again... she did want to hop up on the ladder to help, but it was too wide for her to do it... but she was happy to climb the ladder anyway, just to have a little look from up there!

... and finally, not entirely sure what was bringing down the gutter guards... quite likely the cockatoos, but I did also see a possum the other evening when I was pulling into the driveway. These had to be replaced into the right places... not on the ground, and seeing as my wife is scared of heights... it is my job to jump up there!

The gutters are also due for another cleaning... sigh, too many tress... lots of leaves and silt getting in there.

... and eeeewwww... as we were just standing and admiring our work, a large spitfire dropped out of the tree and and splattered onto the pavement just next to us! A metre or less to the side, and we would have had it in our hair! Gross!!!! I hate these spitfires... one of my most hated pests... they are in the eucalypts... and they have stripped our smaller ones in the past, but this year, they seem to have migrated higher... or maybe we have been more successful with our controls in the last season?
