Do I really need a new battery???

Do I really need a new battery???.jpg

No probably not, I do have a few high capacity batteries lying around... and I probably should dispose of some of the smaller old ones as well. But they have been pretty handy to have around, and sometimes I wish my wife would just pack one for herself rather than saying that her phone has run out of battery....

... but I'm a super-nerd, and I love my little gadgets... and I have held off on getting a new high capacity battery for quite some time. And the technology is there for some pretty serious extra use cases which is quite nifty! Namely, USB-C charging for laptops... now, my Aorus 15 is supposed to take 100 W input via the USB-C port... and this Anker Powerbank is able to output more than enough with the supplied usb-C cable... remember that not all USB-C cables are the same, the "C" spec is only for the physical form factor of the plug, and nothing to do with data/power transport.

Everything comes nicely packaged, and with a neat little bag that can keep the cable and power bank together... after all, to be able to extract that much power, I need to have the proper cable!

The design is pretty sleek, it feels nice to hold... like it is pure condensed power! And it sort of is... a single button for navigation on the screen, and three ports... I do prefer the slimmer form factor of my other high capacity Anker chargers... this on is a bit blocky, which means that it doesn't fit flush in a front pocket of my usual bag... but, some little rejigging of where everything fits will eventually result in something that works!

Shiny little display that shows the remaining power percentage... pretty and nice... but..

... a real nerd is going to lose it over the real time power tracking! This is the power bank getting juiced up from a Steam Deck charging setup... speaking of which , Ooooh, finally, I'm going to be able to use the Deck whilst charging from a power bank! Super cool!

A few more nerdy metrics... some of which is interesting (Temp and Health)... and the rest is a bit meh... but info is info!

Taking a closer look at the in/out ports... you have two of the smaller USB-C type ports, and a USB-B port.... each port is goes pretty much as high as you can go for the particular specs that are supported. So, I'm going to have no trouble using this as my regular travel charger, but I will need to pack one more cable to support the dwindling number of USB-micro devices that I still have... actually, I wonder if there is a small adaptor that would sit flush with the devices that still need those inputs... then I could just pack a single type of charging cable???... Hmmm, time to go shopping again!

So... a top high capacity, high output powerbank from a decent brand! This has already displaced my travel battery, and I'm about to take it for an extended spin whilst I'm travelling. I just need to find a niche in my bag for it to fit into!

How funny I’ve recently bought one of these and it’s fantastic. I use it to power a Roland sampler when I’ve no power outlet nearby. So this will make it possible to take it out and about to create some ambient music with. I hope.

Oh nice! I use it to power a Steam Deck... and sometimes my laptop as a backup. Handy little things! Feels good in the hand as well!

Meanwhile I need to get more as mine keep disappearing XD

pretty sure middle child has mine again as she's most often the one stealing it, every now and again someone at work borrows it but it always comes back shortly afterwards after they've charged it enough to get them through to the next class or home

This thing looks kinda big O_O

Heh... they probably all end up at my place!

It isn't as big as you would expect, well... this is from someone who happily lugs chunky old packs since before it became cool to have a spare battery! It is cool right?

At one stage I had a laptop that had a hot swappable battery (remember back in the days when you could swap laptop batteries?) so I was hauling a spare one of them around, they're pretty chunky XD

Then I had kids and gear size and necessity really started mattering x_x

Oh yea! I had one of those as well for a chunky arse 17 inch Dell laptop! It was crazy heavy, more suited as a weapon than a computer! But it was soooooo cool at the time!
