Comics Compendiums!
I've mentioned it before, but I just hate buying single issues for comics... its expensive, and the pleasure of reading them lasts only a few minutes... and then you are also left in suspense as to what is coming next... or run the risk that the run is cancelled or incomplete. I love buying the collected editions or compendiums... so that I have the entire narrative arc in hand! But these can get quite expensive... even though it is generally much much cheaper than the single issue route.
I recently got hooked onto the Invincible cartoon series on Amazon Prime... after watching the first season, I jumped on board and played the Atom Eve game as it was on special on Steam (a nice but simple game that was a perfect fit for the Steam Deck)... and then I went around hunting for the comics.
I saw that they were discounted for the Black Friday sales on Booktopia, and so I quickly just made an impulse purchase... I was almost tempted to add "The Boys" collection to the list as well, but it was a touch expensive... but on the other hand, I might end up doing that by the end of the week anyway.
... and they arrived within a couple of days! And now I have the Compendiums by my bed and ready to read...
... sadly, these are monster collections! So, these are definitely not travelling companions... well, not unless I'm taking the car... and I do have a stretch of car travel ahead of me... so, maybe these will be getting the travelling treatment!
Interestingly enough, I do have the first volume as an e-book via Humble Bundle, but I don't have my colour e-reader yet... so, I can't take that easily travelling. Well, I could read it on the laptop, but I'm really looking forward to taking my e-comic books with me in a handy large format colour e reader!
Ahhhhh... I'm still a nerdy child at heart!
