El televisor era el amigo infalible de las tías y abuelas para ver las novelas que en su momento constituyeron el espacio de entretenimiento y diversión para la familia sin necesidad de ir al cine, en la comodidad del hogar se podían ver las novelas en horas de la tarde y la emisión estelar en la noche; además el televisor era el medio que les permitía mantenerse al día con la farándula y demás informaciones en el ámbito nacional e internacional, la hora de la novela no podía ser interrumpida por ningún miembro de la familia salvo alguna emergencia de esas que la única persona que puede solventar es la abuela o tía que está en el sofá viendo su esperada novela; interrumpir la hora de la novela con pequeñeces era un sermón largo y tendido que duraría por varios días

Preparar el almuerzo significaba ganarle la carrera al tiempo, todo estaba cronometrado para terminar antes de la novela, fregar los platos, limpiar la cocina y sentarse en el sofá a ver el capitulo de la novela que estaría muy emocionante porque finalmente la protagonista conocería a su verdadero padre después de buscarlo durante tantos años y vivir engañada al creer que su padre era el que visitaba cada mes en el cementerio y con quien pasaba muchas hora hablando y llorando por todas las situaciones que estaba viviendo.
Estas tramas enganchaban al público de tal forma que la hora de la novela era una especie de ritual que no podía ser interrumpido, además un punto de encuentro familiar donde solo se podía opinar en forma breve y concreta durante los cortes comerciales para no perder ningún detalle de la novela.
