Music as a building block.

Greetings everyone πŸ™Œ

As an educator, one thing that helps me stay relevant is dynamism. The ability to be versatile, adept and creative, so much so that the class can become interesting and learners can be at ease while learning. It is not always advisable to use the same patterns or methods of teaching on the same kids all the time as this would lead to boredom. So as a dynamic educator, you want your learners to understand what you are trying to pass across and that entails being able to be innovative with the various teaching methods available.

You start from the known to the unknown

This is a universal code in the education sector. It is a guide on how to build the lesson per time to achieve effective results. A wise builder knows that before any structure can be erected on a piece of land, the foundation should be taken care of first. When the foundation is solid, then the major work of building can begin. So it is in teaching also.

The educator sets the stage for the learning foundation to be secure by starting from what is known and then adding new learning blocks of what is unknown to the learners and opening their understanding to the subject matter. One key way to set the foundation for learning is to use music. I practice this a lot and I can attest to its efficacious results.

As an educator in the sciences, teaching sone formulas and scientific theroies might be difficult. The best way to crack it is to incorporate it in music form and this will get the learners vibing to the teaching. For instance, in trying to teach my pupils about the first twenty elements on the periodic table, I observed that some pupils could not clearly and fully state all the twenty elements accordingly and thus I had to go the way of music. When I Incorporated some beats to the teachings, with the names of the twenty elements as the lyrics, I discovered that all the pupils were understanding and gaining momentum.

Till date, those pupils have not forgotten the first twenty elements of the periodic table and they can say it clearly and enjoy it more in musical form. I also recall that I made a post some weeks back on how I begin teaching kids below seven years of age by first allowing them to listen to their favourite tunes for a few minutes. This will set the motion for learning and make my work easy.

Below is one of the musical videos I play for my pupils to get them in the learning mood.

And this one is for the twenty elements of the periodic table. You can learn from it too.

These are some of the ways that I build with music and the results are amazing everytime.

Thanks for reading and listening. This is my entry to the #novemberinleo initiative for day 9.

I also learnt the first 20 element of the periodic table in my ss1 through song, then it was hard for me and most student to, so one of our teachers taught us with a song.

Well done for putting effort to see your students understands what's been taught in the classroom.

As an educator and instructor, having the students at heart is crucial in their education. Music is a surefire way to lighten up a child's mood and to learn something faster. All learning methods must be incorporated to achieve success in teaching.
