Hello my younger self...... thoughtfulprompt #3
Hello beautiful people on hive and the thoughtful daily post community, greetings!
You are welcome to my blog
It was a cool Saturday evening. The sun was just setting and it gave off an orange hue in the sky that gladdens the heart of those who behold it,just like it did for me.
Unlike the rest of the family and neighbours who were basking in the receeding sunlight. I was in my room, cozily reading a book about magic and time travel.
The book tells the story of Shirley, a female who needs to complete certain tasks in order to win the infinity stone which she could use to travel back in time and correct 3 mistakes from her past life.
I was so enchanted by the book that I did not hear my cousin, Andy's footsteps when he entered my room. He came and snatched the book from my loose grip, earning a pout from me.
*"Give me back the book Andy, don't start with your silly pranks * I said.
*"You are always reading this book and youre not in the mood for a few games anymore why?" He asked me
"Well that's because the book is interesting Andy, I need to know if Shirley used the infinity stone to go back in time to correct her mistakes " I replied with an eye roll.
"Ok but you will only get this book back once you have answered my question ok"....he said
"Aarrrggghhh! You are so nosy Andy, just go ahead ok"... I replied sharply
If you could go back in time and give your younger self 3 pieces of advice, what age would you choose to visit yourself at? What wisdom do you choose to impart and why?.
"That's the question and you have 40 mins to answer it and get your book back"....he said as he ran away from my room before I could grab him.
A thought popped into my head instantly and I began to pen it down.....this is going to be a letter to the past and it reads...
Hello my younger self
You are seventeen years old now and soon you will venture out into the real world, leaving the comforts of home behind. I want to give you 3 pieces of wisdom that will help you enjoy your life more and become a better "you"
Prioritize relationships and not things
Raised in an environment where the slogan was all man to himself impacted me otherwise. I never saw the need to build lasting relationships or keep forever friends or have good relations with people... simply put, I just did not care.
I lived my life and as long as I could get what I wanted that was it for me, we're done. If only I had cared enough to build strategic relationships then I could have been dinied with kings. I never saw the need to build relationships talk more of managing it. Now I have come to realize that for a person to go farther in life, that person needs people.
I once heard a man say...
You are 4 people away from your breakthrough.
We are social beings created to co-exist and depend on each other, failure to do this will hinder progress.
Things may get spoilt, breakdown or become outdated but never people.
Give without expectation of receiving
Growing up in an environment where everyone lived their lives and did their own thing, built the attitude of always expecting something in return. When I gave one thing, I expected to receive two things.
This was not the right way to live and I regret not knowing better, sooner.
This saying changed my perspective and helped me...
Blessed is the hand that gives than the hand that receives.
Whether it is money, time, talent or material resources, give and expect nothing back. Give joyfully knowing that you are sowing seeds.
Make the most of every opportunity
Nothing in life is promised, nothing at all. That's why when an opportunity comes knocking, you should cease it and make the most out of it.
I threw many chances of becoming better at several skills and positions because I felt my parents would always cater to my needs. All that changed when dad lost his job and the mantle of bread winner fell on my mum.
Later on, mum passed on and that mantle fell on me as I was the eldest child. Life took a downward spiral and became unpleasant as I had to start learning those things I should have learnt prior to that time.
I struggled a lot and almost wanted to throw in the towel but when I thought of my family, I buckled up. I had to bear a lot of hardships because i missed the opportunity to maximize and make the most out of opportunities when they came knocking.
To conclude, I would also add
Do unto others what you want them to do to you. Be thoughtful and treat people with kindness even when some of these people don't deserve it and finally learn to look at the bright side of things. Forgive easily and smile cheerily and you will be on your way to leaving a happy and fulfilled life.
I hope this letter will go a long way in helping you do life better than I did.
Your future self
When I was done writing I folded the letter and put it in a bottle. I would throw it into a river. Hopefully my younger self will find it....who knows.
@beckyroyal...
Clever indeed... I like that you not only participated in this month's prompt. But you went a step further... decided to be creative and intermingle your real-life thoughts, with that of a story being told. I see from your words, that you are not a stranger to the rollercoaster called life:
We live to see another day... yes? Keep on shining... thank you for your submission!
Wes...

I definitely needed this words of wisdom when I was entering my teenage years, would've help in preventing many mistakes. I think prioritizing relationships and making the most of every opportunity are some of the best foundations to build on early on in life.
I am glad by your words. Thank you always, you are appreciated
Wow
This is amazing dear.
The three pieces of wisdom is indeed the best, one could follow.
If only we can turn back time, there will be a lot to correct and amend.
Now we can't, we just have to start up good in any way we can now we realize them.
Yes that's the only option we have because life must go on
That's true.
Amazing write dear.
Thank you

That was a lovely story that you weaved, @beckyroyal, and the advice that you'd give your younger self are priceless. We all learn these important lessons, though it definitely takes some longer than others. By the way, magic and time travel, and much, much more, are indeed real. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
Lol,thank you for your kind comments.
Most definitely, you're very welcome! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
Good story line very interesting. Thoughtful of you. Best wishes.
Thanks for your kind comments... really appreciate it
Very good advice but will only work because you know your mistakes, try to tell any 17 year old this and see if they listen. I know I would not listen to the advice my parents tried to instill in me at 17, I wish I would have.
You've got a point here as well. Thanks for your wonderful contribution
You're welcome
