Waiting for the white nights
In Petersburg, at the end of June, a holiday is held for school graduates. It is called "Scarlet Sails" (based on the novel of the same name by Alexander Green). At this time, a period of white nights is taking place in the city. The sun, of course, goes below the horizon (we are not in the Arctic Circle), but the night is short and bright. You can, if desired, read the newspaper without additional lighting.
This is a very colorful holiday with the participation of an active sailing vessel with scarlet sails among lighting effects, music and fireworks. By this time, quite a lot of people are going to admire this spectacle. But I will show you the other side of this event. More precisely, some details of the expectation of this holiday.
All these yachts and boats are almost at a low start. This is one of the branches of the Neva Delta. From here they will rush closer to the place of the main events - to the Palace Bridge. But it will be later, and now they are waiting for the start :)
Let's replace the lens with a TV lens and look at some details of the picture.
Agree, not a very simple yacht.
There's even a gas station here. It was the first time I saw boats and yachts refueling.
I didn't go to the party at night. Firstly, there are too many people there, only school leavers with teachers are allowed into the very center, and I don't like unnecessary noise. But you can watch all this on TV while sitting in an armchair. A dubious replacement, but you can see much more than on the spot. Although there are other feelings.
Cheers and Thanks
That's so interesting! I've never heard of the Scarlet Sails festival before, but it sounds like a really special event. I love that it takes place during the white nights, which must be a magical time in St. Petersburg.
I'm sure the Scarlet Sails festival is a really special experience for the school graduates who attend. It must be amazing to see the sailing vessel with scarlet sails lit up against the night sky, and to hear the music and fireworks.
I am sure that Assol's story is known to every student. This is a very symbolic event, the students go on a new voyage - an independent life.
Cheers and !BEER
