Rumor? Killer or Saver of men?

Have you ever had the thought of breaking someone’s head but it is painful as you don’t even know the person? It is irritating to the body, mind, and spirit.

Rumor, is it the killer or saver of men? Many have different definitions of rumor, what is yours?

I woke up with a tired soul yesterday, I was not in the mood for smiling and it was annoying as it disturbs my peace.

I had to walk to work as buses stopped working because of some issues with some agencies, people were left to walk to and fro and it was tiring. I got to work tired to add more tiredness to my already tired soul.. Fun wasn’t in my dictionary and it was bad, a fun Balikis makes work incredibly great but a sad one? Nah…

Back to my topic on “rumor”, it was rumored that a celebrity's child died at the pool and social media was restless, a colleague had brought in the news but I trashed it because social media handlers will do anything to gain people's attention.

When I later saw the news again, I had my doubts, was it true? Was it not? It was hard to know as the victim's parent hadn’t spoken up, a clout had created a page using the victim's mother's name on Twitter to tell people her son died, it was ridiculous! To what length will people go for popularity? It irked me.

This reminded me of an incident that happened some years back at the fuel station when I had gone to get fuel.
Someone had screamed fire! And we all ran off, imagine a situation whereby someone screamed fire in a fuel station!

People ran, oh I ran, I had never run like that in my eternal life, my adrenaline was at work that I ran and never stopped, I ran a very long mile which I never thought on, by the time I stopped I saw they were people who also ran in my direction, we were all down, panting hard, unable to breathe when a man's phone rang, his wife had called telling him that it wasn’t a fire outbreak but someone had mistakenly opened up the fire extinguisher which made a noise.

Geez, you have to see the fume coming out of my ears, it was volcanic, it was boiling at a point of a full blast! We had to take a bus back to the fuel station because we had run very far.

When we got there, we could see people fuming so madly and it added more to mine, what nonsense.. Why would someone say that? Who did the heck scream fire when there was none? People could have died while running, pushing themselves to safety, cars coming in could have got someone killed, a lot could have happened, a fucking lot.

Now it is clear why I made the first statement.

Not knowing the culprit annoyed everyone, I was angry, deeply angry I had to run that far I almost died because I never stopped running even when my breath was hitched, I never stopped running even when my legs screamed I should, I never stopped running and kept moving on until my nerves couldn’t hold it anymore and I had to stop to catch my lost breath.

Before we left, a lady had made a statement saying, “What if it were true?” would we blame the person or thank the person for putting out a warning? I had looked the lady deeply in the eye letting her know I am holding on to my last thread and would lash out completely at her if she spoke further, she had swallowed hard and left the scene.

I had gone back home tired, hungry, and angry that day, I was unable to put on the generator or do anything for that matter I just poured in the fuel and rested for hours.

While resting, the lady's word rang in my mind and I gave it a second thought with a calm mind, “What if it was true?” I would have been saved and prayed for the person, but it wasn’t true and more damage could have occurred with the rumor given out. Accidents could have happened when everyone was running out. I sighed deeply and knew my answer.

I had always made sure not to believe words heard unless it is heard from the horse's mouth, even with that, I still have my doubts depending on the matter rumored.

Back to my day yesterday, I had to leave work early to be able to make it home on time, I had a good bath and rested even though I failed to eat.

Posing a question to you, what can you say about the word rumor? Care to share your experiences with it?

PS: On the death of the celebrity's son whose name was Ifeanyi, I still don’t know if there is truth in the information passed out or not. If you wonder who the celebrity is, he is popularly known as Davido( a Nigerian music artist). If the rumor is true then may the soul of his son rest in perfect peace, but if it isn’t, social media handlers…Sighs I rest my case.
