Touring expressionist art in the Jorge Rando Museum.

Expressionism, a very original form of art, brushstrokes come and go forming different figures, where colours may or may not abound, but where one makes known what comes from the heart and soul.

Today's walk takes place in the Jorge Rando Museum, the only expressionist museum in Spain and what is more important, the artist is still alive and developing spectacular works.

Whether or not we like the way he develops his works or the way he paints, he is a great artist, who shows his feelings and thoughts on his canvases.

I have visited this museum on several occasions, but this one is special because it has been renovated and now it also has cultural activities such as showing a film once a month completely free of charge. A film that has a great artistic or historical meaning, with great learning.

The museum is free to visit every day and at all times when it is open to the public.

At first I met a receptionist who explained to me how to look at Rando's work.

20231025_175516.jpg

First I had to climb the stairs and there I came across some sculptures. They caught my attention, because although they don't have a definite face, the energy and what they express is surprising.

On the other hand, on the first floor there are works about butterflies, a theme that Rando deals with a lot, as well as the theme of war.

20231025_175820.jpg20231025_180012.jpg

With regard to the latter, Rando shows different aspects of war, painting in this way numerous soldiers with different colours and attitudes, but also soldiers rescuing children from the absurdity of war in the world. Rando has travelled extensively and has thus been able to see different realities such as Africa, poverty, among others.

20231025_175914.jpg

Rando's sculptures attract a lot of attention, like the one we see here, where there is an adult and children looking at a wall. The intention is to awaken people to the reality that surrounds us. It is a work that calls for awareness.

20231025_180026.jpg

Then I came across a painting behind bars, as if it were a prison, the prison in which many people, especially children, are imprisoned.

20231025_180250.jpg

Once I came down from the first floor I found a small garden full of mandarin fruit trees, some tables with chairs. The place where the museum is located was donated by the convent and school that adjoin it.

20231025_180259.jpg

In this garden there are two sculptures, a striking one showing a pregnant woman in a beautiful pink colour, pink is love.

20231025_180323.jpg

And then I spot this other more structured work but within the surroundings it looked very nice.

20231025_180336.jpg

Continuing with the walk I went to a corridor where I saw more sculptures of people looking at the wall, it was surprising how well done they were. I tried to find my own interpretation, since art is like that. I saw people closing their eyes to reality and turning their backs on it. How sad that is and Rando also expresses it.

20231025_180402.jpg

He himself says that the painting makes the painter great and satisfies him.

20231025_180535.jpg

20231025_180543.jpg

20231025_180602.jpg

Then I went into a dark room, where the butterfly exhibition is located. I love butterflies, and their meaning of change and freedom. One painting is more beautiful than the other. I was struck by the one that occupies the length of the wall.

20231025_180725.jpg

Following the route that had been pointed out to me, I enter another room where I find a bit of Rando's history along with numerous books.

20231025_180744.jpg

20231025_180859.jpg

This room contains a ground floor where I found several works about butterflies, most of them very dark with very little colour.

20231025_181213.jpg

20231025_181426.jpg

20231025_181437.jpg

I also visualised larger works occupying a large space on the wall, very beautiful indeed, many with no definite form as if they were abstract. Others were framed containing silhouettes of more butterflies.

20231025_182902.jpg

And when I look up at the ceiling I notice a giant butterfly flying overhead looking down at me.

When I went up the stairs to the first floor I noticed that there were several smaller rooms as if dividing a large space into sectors according to the theme to be treated.

20231025_182302.jpg

20231025_182159.jpg

Among others, there was a space dedicated to the experiences of Jesus Christ, very graphic with bright colours and showing the final moments of his story.

20231025_182439.jpg

20231025_182621.jpg

Another space, which was also very colourful, was dedicated to flowers, or at least that's what I saw. But they didn't have very defined shapes, I think it's up to the viewer to interpret them.

20231025_182550.jpg

And finally, the work that I liked the most was this couple embracing, as if they were in the rain. Of all that I saw, which was a lot and wonderful, I chose this painting as the most beautiful and with a lot of feeling.

20231025_183458.jpg

It was a beautiful journey, with a variety of works, although I focused on the ones that had the greatest impact on me.

Thank you all for joining me on this Wednesday walk and for having seen and read this far.

Best regards to all and see you next time.
Amonet.

All photographs are my own.

I have to admit that expressionism captivated me in my adolescence, times of crisis. Now I still like some authors, but as a movement now I am less interested, however the text has so much passion that makes me want to visit it. Thank you for giving us the gift of a visit to the museum

So many great creative pieces in this museum. The last one of the couple embracing is wonderful. It nicely captures a very human emotion of seeking comfort in good and bad times.

Thank you for this beautiful ride. Art is important because in addition to offering a view of the world, and the artist's perception of it, it also often fills in many gaps.
