WOULD YOU RATHER WORK REMOTELY OR ON-SITE?
If I put this on a poll and asked everyone to vote, I bet remote would win over on-site and it’ll be me with 80% of the vote. Honestly, I’d rather work remotely for the rest of my life till retirement for so many reasons.
One: I don’t like being outside.
Two: I don’t like to leave my house.
Three: I enjoy the comfort of my home.
I could go on and on but I’m sure you get my point. Working remotely is where the party is at and the pandemic highlighted that for everyone. The pandemic practically proved to us that most office spaces are unnecessary, as jobs could run perfectly without everyone having to come in. Not all jobs, obviously. The essential workers, without whom the society would literally crumble, can’t enjoy this luxury of remote working. The health workers really held it down for us, they were our heroes and the world can’t thank them enough.
Remotes jobs are a lot better and safer for the environment. The more people are at home, the less pollution is meted on the environment from cars and what not.
Both companies and employees also get to save time and money. Employees get to pace themselves by having flexible working hours. A lot of people also tend to be more productive when they work from home, because they’re more comfortable, in control and in their natural elements.
I fancy remote working for all of these reasons, and also because it is a middle finger in the face of the ever over bearing capitalism. Work culture makes it look like comfort cannot be associated with working but the pandemic has proven that null. The pandemic was super enlightening, showing us that the things we have believed can not wait actually can in fact, wait for over a year. All the activities and routines we base our entire existence on can stop mattering in a switch.
I remember reading some tweets during the pandemic from some persons living with disabilities, who had appealed to their companies to let them work from home but were denied; express their disappointments in the system. All of a sudden, working from home became a possibility because everyone’s lives are at stake, but their interests were disregarded over something that’s clearly possible; it was kind of sad.
Working remotely also has its downsides, especially for people who get distracted easily or have short attention span. You sit down to work and next thing you know you’re standing in front of your refrigerator cake and drinking juice. Being in your comfort place can be distracting no doubt, but you can tell that to your deadline. I believe if you have something to do then you’ll go ahead to doit, especially when it’s your ticket to survival.
The usual communication that exists in the work place becomes lacking but that can be managed. I don’t believe communication is a reasonable excuse to debate against remote working, after all there are people working internationally from their homes and still getting shit done.
I love flexibility and comfort. I want to be able to go to work once or twice a week, have a meeting with my team to discuss the product’s progress or whatever, then go back to my house and not have to show face again till the next week, that’s my dream work routine as a product manager.
We have zoom, we have slack, Gsuit; we have a bunch of office tools that make working from anywhere feasible so why not.
You get to spend more time with your pet and listen to some cool background music as you work.
Sounds great to me.

I can agree and guilty with such being distracted easily. Though I want to work remotely, there are certain factors such as music and babies in the background that creates a problem in focusing.

You’re right, working from home would be an actual hell for parents with little kids.

I'd rather work on site. Since I'm bad at time management and often fall into bad procrastination habits. The on-site work gives me structure and aligns my priorities.
Mm, you’re right. But, if we moved in together, I’d help you focus better.

😂😂
Somehow I very much doubt that. 😅
In most cases, I would also prefer to work remotely than on site. Exception would be if the work requires us to be physically present to do a job, like assembling or testing a device or a machinery.
Obviously, there are a lot of jobs that are far better done remotely.
Though, there are times when I would like to meet other people. Like my work buddies and some clients. Sitting in the house for years makes me bored and my butt sore. 😁

Yeah, no one wants to isolate for too long unless they’re a mad scientist.
Being able to work with coke again every now and then is great, I just want to have flexibility and choice.
Thank you for stopping by; means a lot. And thanks for the 1UP.
