My Thoughts on Hive Content
So everyone has been talking about Hive content lately. It seems like there are dozens of different discussions going on like should AI content be allowed, should plaigarism be downvoted, etc. etc... The one core issue that keeps coming around is: how do we "police" content on the Hive ecosystem.
In my opinion, this is showing a broader issue on the internet. Good content vs. bad content.
AI content adding into the mix simply adds another layer of complexity. Detection tools are available so if someone decides that all AI content rewards should be zeroed out, that's a relatively easy thing to build a bot for.
Should AI Content Be Allowed?
This is the #1 topic right now. In fact, it's kind of the #1 topic on all fronts. Everyone in Venture Capital is all high on this AI craze since the release of ChatGPT.
OpenAI - originally founded as a non-profit - raised $10b to keep building GPT.
The AI craze is just beginning and we're seeing this spill over into Hive now with the discussions about AI content being allowed or not allowed in terms of the Hive rewards pool.
The Rewards Pool is but one part of the discussion. A broader discussion could take place about the entirety of content on Hive.
I see Hive moving in a few different directions. It's clear to me that LeoFinance's Project Blank is going to solve a lot of these issues by not even directly trying to solve these issues.
Project Blank offers superior content and engagement. That's just a fact.
Back to the question though... Should AI Content Be Allowed?
Define allowed... Does that mean you can post it but not earn rewards? Does it mean you can post it AND earn rewards? OR does it mean you can't post it at all?
In my opinion, you should be able to use AI to post but not earn rewards for what the AI is writing.
What IFs
That being said, what if you use an AI assistant to HELP you write... Not to write entire posts for you?
In my opinion, that's totally okay. If you had a personal assistant who helped you write content, wouldn't that be perfectly fine?
A Deeper Question
The assistant idea drew me into a deeper rabbit hole... If your assistant wrote all your content and nobody knew but you were earning rewards for it, wouldn't that be okay?
I think that would be okay. Perhaps it's a writing business like the New York Times... What's the difference here?
So now we start to realize that it's the AI part that people don't like. It's the automation of it.
And if you seek to understand the way ChatGPT works at a deeper level, you realize that another big issue is that it simply regurgitates content.
So when people like hw and others are looking at content, I don't think they are completely in the wrong. Yes, I think there is some political charge behind all of this... but isn't there political charge behind anything?
People who work hard on this blockchain should get rewarded. AI content spinning isn't brand new with chatGPT... It's just harder to detect.
My name is Asteroids - well, that's my Hive name, anyways. I believe firmly in the future of Web3 technology and its potential to reshape our lives. I'm a serial entrepreneur and my aim in life is to always evolve and find new ways to leverage technology in my life.
As I continue to build things, I find new and important wisdom in all sorts of places. My goal here on Hive is simply to share that wisdom so that you can improve as well.
Working is as much about building good habits as it is about doing the actual work. Remembering this on a daily basis has changed my life for the better.
Until next time,

The problem for the Hive blockchain is going to be how do you police it? Will there be an automated system to detect AI-created content? Using AI to downvote AI? Or flag it and take away its rewards? It's the only way I see feasible to combat it. Manual systems will not be able to scale well enough to beat thousands of daily posts generated by artificial intelligence.
We're down a long rabbit hole now. People like to police in whatever way they see fit
Problem is that content is subjective. People like the downvote police are just driving away real users, in my opinion

What defines a "real user?" You could say the same thing about upvote cliques where a few whales just upvote each others' posts and ignore everyone else. And then we can get into downvote wars, where one person gets pissed off and rallies an army to attack another user through downvotes. Then that user gathers his own army and goes after the other guy. I saw all of this happen on Steemit before the hard fork. Hive hasn't fixed any of these issues, and as long as it remains decentralized, it won't. It's a feature, not a bug.
AI is a different thing though. It's auto-generated content that has the potential to take over the blockchain in the same way that bidbots took over Steemit. That's a much bigger problem, in my opinion, than downvote police.
Why not use AI as tool, as long as you disclose it?
People also use calculators, software that corrects grammer and all kind of tools to speed up and improve things.
Just having a post written predominantly by AI and not mentioning it, that would be fraud.
I completely agree with this statement. Not giving credit where credit is due is fraud. If you claim the work as your own, it is cheating.
I think that's okay too. The problem is that people like to pick and choose what is good content and what is not
The Hive police will do whatever they want, at the expense of Hive users

I just think that people who use AI should state that they do so in their post. It’s a tool like anything else. Just don’t lie about it being your own work.
Very true. I don't use AI in my posts. Although it does seem like Hivewatchers decided to flag me anyway

That’s unfortunate! I’m sorry that happened to you.
You literally don't have a single downvote from hw/spaminator on any post or comment, can you at least pretend to only own one account
I see my content from here as a journey that I take through crypto and other investments, spiced a bit with some personal experiences and maybe outside-thinking subjects.

Everything is a journey my friend, keep stepping the path and stay strong.
I'll keep creating content on Hive despite getting downvoted for no apparent reason
