Faking it is Not Actually Faking it
You may have read one of my articles where I talked about faking it and doing it. In it, I focused on being a better listener.
Well, now let's apply it to something else that I'm trying to improve in my life: discipline.
My goal in life is to be more disciplined. As I said before, I've become like the fat king in a novel. I'm overfed and it feels like a war is coming. How will I stand on the front lines with my troops - my brothers and sisters - if I can't wield my sword, let alone get out of bed?
Faking it is not actually faking it
This is the funny thing about life, discipline, learning and skill acquisition. Sometimes doing is the only way of doing. It may sound counterintuitive but the best way to learn is to simply do.
School never made sense to me growing up. I hated being at school. I hated going to school. I hated everything about school.
That being said, I always loved learning. I always loved being curious.
People would look at me in school and ask why I never did the homework or studied for tests or wrote essays.
I would sit there with a book in my hands, reading or writing in a notebook. They would ask what class that was for and I would say "no class, just for myself".
With years, I wish I would could go back and articulate that better. I would say that it's for the class of life. I'm not spending my time reading, writing or learning for school because these subjects don't interest me.
So you see, one of the fascinating things about learning is that you simply need to follow your own curiosity. When it comes to being disciplined, you simply need to follow your disciplines.
We often spend so much time thinking about doing a thing and very little time actually doing a thing. Imagine if instead of complaining about doing something, you just sat down and did it.
Imagine the sense of accomplishment. Of fulfillment. Imagine not dreading the thing anymore because it is over and done with.
Imagine how good that feels. How great your life would be if you were always on top of doing these things.
In my life, I aim to have more discipline. How will I get there? By doing it and not crying about it.
My name is Asteroids - well, that's my Hive name, anyways. I believe firmly in the future of Web3 technology and its potential to reshape our lives. I'm a serial entrepreneur and my aim in life is to always evolve and find new ways to leverage technology in my life.
As I continue to build things, I find new and important wisdom in all sorts of places. My goal here on Hive is simply to share that wisdom so that you can improve as well.
Working is as much about building good habits as it is about doing the actual work. Remembering this on a daily basis has changed my life for the better.
Until next time,
-A
