Our Homeschool Diary: Friday is Library Day

Hello, Home Edders! It's been a while... It's been quite busy in our homeschool and with lots of things going on recently hence my intermittent presence here on Hive. I've been wanting to share about our visit to the Abu Dhabi Children's Library and their latest exhibit featuring Lullabies from different parts of the world. Life happened and I obviously wasn't able to share this but ended up just sharing a glimpse of it on my last Shadow Hunters post.

Friday is Library Day!

So we've officially declared Friday as our Library Day. Surprise! (or not) LOL! The kids love the Children's Library for many reasons and since the pandemic restrictions have been lifted we can now freely visit the library without presenting a "green QR code" which meant a negative PCR result within the past two days. We could now visit any day we want, but we decided to stick with Fridays so as not to break the weekdays homeschool routine.

The library is big and has lots of reading nooks all around the place. Each kid can find their own space to read. I used to run around and chase after them during our very first visits. Fortunately, my kids have grown up a lot since then and they now know their way around the place. I can now also settle in my own corner to read my chosen book (they also have books for adults -- parents and teachers).

A Library Card, Finally!

When the library opened again after the lockdowns they had some issues with their system for issuing library cards. We tried again last month and they can now finally issue the cards.

Each child can get his own library card but we initially opted to get for my eldest only. With this we can borrow up to six (6) books for three (3) weeks! Cool, yeah?

The system for borrowing the books is also very easy since it is automated. They have very accommodating staff too for any cases that we run into some errors like a book not available for checkout or something.

With every visit, the kids find a mine of fantastic books to read on site, and to borrow for further enjoyment at home.

Today, we wanted to borrow more than six books so we decided to apply for Little Miss' library card, too!

It's quite amusing how with this simple activity (visiting a library) I am able to witness the development of my little bunch. They used to look forward to a visit to the Children's Library with play in mind, but now they come with anticipation to the reading time they would get, too!

It's hard not to pick up a book when you are surrounded with hundreds of them. I'd be the happiest if these little humans would fall more deeply in love with books and reading. ❤️

oh yeaaah we're a library users now too, and it's pleasure and happiness for my son:) and for me as well because we can save a looot of money thanks to the library;) books are rather expensive now, and he reads them so fast;)
you're right it's hard to choose when there are a lot of them:)🌟

So True!!! There's these novels we need for book reports that we just borrow here. No need to buy. ❤️

Picking a book from lots is always a not so easy thing to do. I get confused myself.

It's not always the most fun thing trying to get kids to read but once you get past that phase, it's all bliss.

We don't have a library day but from how exciting this article is, I think I'll make out a day every week for it.
Well-done!😊

Thanks! I love reading and it's one thing I'd love my kids to want as well. They do - - but not as much yet that I'd call it "a bliss". 😅

Hi @arrliinn, the library is a wonderful place and it is sometimes difficult to decide which book to take, when I was in school there was a library (still working), which I visited very often to borrow books and check out the science area my favorite were the solar system books, I liked to look at the pictures of the planets, I spent several hours in that area.

Oh so true! Space and celestial bodies are always amusing to read about. ❤️ My eldest (12) has always been interested in animals. He could stay in that section during our whole stay at the library. The younger two (7&8) are more into dinosaurs and story books.

Hahaha. I know, right?! It's like leaving them in a playground but with books all around them. In the end they end up picking up a book or two. 😁

What a beautiful library and without a doubt they learned a lot visiting it.

Cheers

I have always thought that libraries are an endless world, where one learns many things and mainly to interpret and be analytical. It's a pity that here they have disappeared due to the internet and the lack of interest on the part of educators to send children to read. THANKS FOR SHARING.
