Lots of Babies on Cactus
Hello dear lovers of cacti and succulents! Today I would like to show you one of my cacti (I don’t know its name, but it is the most common and is in almost every house, even I have several of them)
This specimen is interesting, with a large number of children on its surface...
During the winter, the children grew almost to a widow, although in the fall they completely stopped their growth ... I don’t even know what this is connected with!
I don’t know exactly when they can be planted in the ground, probably in the spring (tell me who knows), but small roots are already appearing in babies ...
There is another exemplar of this species with babies,
but this cactus in my opinion is dying ... (
This can be seen from the yellowness going from bottom to top!
@ewkaw, @mipiano, @nikv or @ludmila please tell me (I know you are experts) what can be done with it! Maybe cut off the top and root? Or is it better to wait until spring? Just one cactus of this kind I have already died ...
I got this one from my sister, its base is thin, and roots have already sprouted on the leg ...
I would appreciate any advice and information!
Well, that's all for today! Thanks for being with me!
Take care of yourself and your loved ones and see you soon!
ohh babies on cactus are so sweet.. i am always so happy when i find them.. and yours have really lots of babies haha
Soon I will have a whole greenhouse)
This is Echinopsis cactus :) they have huge flowers... when they eventually bloom.
The top is a little stretched - it means it needs more light.
The babies you could probably plant separately in spring. At least the bigger ones. If they have some tiny roots growing, the better. I would wait though until they are about 1cm across. They look a bit small.
The yellow bottom I am not sure. If it is soft it would be better to cut it as soon as possible right under those roots that started to grow there. Roots normally don't grow like that so I think there could be something wrong either way with the root system, or that thin bottom and the plant doesn't get enough water, so started to grow the roots from the middle to get extra support.
If you decide to cut it, do not plant it until the wound heals and dries completely. Even for a week or two.
Did it even bloom for you?
No, these cacti have not bloomed yet, my sister gave them to me last summer ... I try to take care of them according to your advice, I hope that in the spring I will wait for them to bloom)
Thank you so much for your feedback and great advice!
Fingers crossed :D
Thanks!
I am really not that expert as some of the mentioned ones, but what Ewkaw says has sense, at least I think. That if it has those roots there, something is going wrong so it is searching for additional support.
Thanks for the response, I will try to save the poor plant ...
Hope you can save it :)
The babies will survive, they look healthy.
Yay! 🤗

1 hive = 0.442 hdb
