[Arc Plays | Post #2] 7 Days to Die: Surviving Day 15 and 21

Welcome to my second Arc Plays post! My GF and I just started playing this game and here's our recent progress in our server. Surviving the Blood Moon horde has always been troublesome for us but it looks like we've survived Day 15 and 21.

Testing the Waters

A little backstory: before this server where we've survived Day 21, we had an older world that we used for feeling out the game. At first, it was just me and my GF playing in it but we eventually got 2 more friends to join us. Watching Youtube videos for references wasn't our thing (where's the fun in that) so imagine the mess during our first few days in the game. Nobody knew what skill tree to take, we didn't know what horde bases were, we didn't gather as many materials as we can... We just had 0 knowledge of how things went. Despite that, we managed to survive Day 15 in World 1 but had no idea how to prepare for the next week.

Then came the 'Rona.

The both of us got Covid and were stuck in my house for 2 weeks. My GF had no access to her computer as it was in her place so, to survive boredom, we both played on mine. From there, each of us had a different world -- mine had a slower pace when it came to experience and looting gains while hers had easier tweaks so she could be busier with adventures rather than the grind.

Long and lone adventures with my bicycle

After recovering from Covid, she went home and we came across a slight issue... Our worlds had more progress that we can't let go and we had to decide which world should we use moving forward. If we chose mine, she'll be starting from scratch and the exp/loot rewards are slower but I get to keep my character's progress. If we chose hers, I'll be the one starting over. Since I didn't mind grinding again, I moved into her world and scrap the first testing world we had. The chances that we can build a better base here were higher and her storage was already organized enough. We invited our 2 friends again and they were free to participate any time.

Day 15: Blood Moon Chaos

Day 15's Blood Moon Horde was awful. We didn't expect that since we were 3 in the game that time, we'd be swarmed with 'em nasties. Our ammo wasn't enough, my pipe shotgun's reload time is absolute trash and our defending space was not adequate for our party size.

That reload speed will be the death of me

The initial attack started at 22:00 as per usual. By midnight, we failed to protect our bunker and they started pouring in. I can't open the hatch under us as anyone could drop dead from the fall but I guess that was an option that we didn't need. We died one by one and spawned back inside our little base room. The Blood Moon event ends at 04:00, we have to survive until then.

After respawning, everyone had to replenish their inventory quickly, or else there we'd all be dying some more. I took all the food and medicine buffs I could take to endure the night. It seems like we were not safe to stay inside for long as they were digging their way down to us. We had to fight and run as needed.

I was in a state of panic and didn't know where the rest of my party ran to but I had to do something about our base. Seeing holes in the room my GF prepared when she was playing alone was not something I looked forward to so I had to keep poking and shooting. At the back of my mind, I was wondering what went wrong during the defense but the current situation was more urgent.

We still had 1 hour and 15 minutes of hell to go through.

During the last 10 minutes of the defense, zombies were still crawling faster than I could run. I had to get back to the surface, swing my bat, and wish for morning to come quickly. Luckily, the clock struck 04:00 and their movements began to slow down. All we had to do by then was to clear the rest of the horde so we can start breathing normally.

The Aftermath and D-21 Preparations

Indeed, it was one stressful night. We had to ponder upon our current bunker's performance and come up with something bigger and better otherwise, we won't last the next horde nights. We had to start preparing on the same day to make sure we had ample time to plan our next horde base, collect resources and finish building it.

My GF found a good spot to dig into so there was no time to waste. Shovels and pickaxes were our best friends for the rest of the day. I had to craft and pick up some supplies before I went back to the area we were excavating. Their progress was quite fast as the ramp's frame shape has been placed. Now I had to do my share of digging.

The horde base we were planning to build had to have a pool they can fall into and a ramp they can pass through to they're pretty stuck in a loop of falling and going back up. In the future, I'm thinking if we should put some electric fences up so once they get shocked and fall into the water, they wouldn't immediately be in rage mode and start hitting on nearby structures.

The days passed and we took our time to do some jobs from Trader Joel, obtain resources and make sure we were prepared for the next wave.

Final Steps and Horde Night

Shotgun ammo? Okay. But that's not what I need--

We're wrong. Again. And this time, we were just two online. We underestimated how workbenches functioned, so we're short on 7.62 mm bullets - ammo we needed for our AK-47s. I managed to fill our medical supplies, but, we can't really heal zombies with those and stop them from being undead...

I let my GF have most of the 7.62 ammo since I can clobber up enemies with my baseball bat and stun baton. The shotgun I had was still a dumb pipe shotgun that can only shoot once and reload forever but I just went with it too.

This robotic sledge can push enemies away

Our bunker model was doing well, and we had zombies in an endless loop. We also got lucky with obtaining a robotic sledge during our adventures, so throwing them into that cycle was easier.

Below is what the pool looks like after we built it:

Pool to ramp loop. Bonus feature: zombies

There were minimal damages to our horde base after this night, and we're looking to fortify it further and probably make more adjustments so our two other friends can shoot/fight without blocking each other... I just love this 3D version of Minecraft. 😂

Aight, we'll be off to another week of preparations! Thanks for reading. 👋
