Wonderful Walk in the Forest of the Abbaye du Valdieu

avatar

Hello dear Hivers, today I invite you for a walk in the form of discovery that I took yesterday at the end of the afternoon, which means that I was not able to participate in the traditional Wednesday walk :)

I had never explored this part of the forest before, but I already knew, having studied the map a little, that there were several ponds and the remains of the buildings of a community of monks.

But we will see that along the way and without delay, let's start this hike !

DSC_2044.JPG

This is the road where I parked as I was returning from the nearest market and I purposely had to take the small forest paths rather than the main roads.

Just by the color of the leaves, we can immediately tell that the majority of them are beech trees, at least in this portion of the forest.

DSC_2060.JPG

At least there's a sign, I'm not going into completely unknown territory ! I say this because in this place, there are no telephone or internet networks, at least not with my operator !

DSC_2053.JPG

DSC_2065.JPG

DSC_2062.JPG

I'm glad I stopped at that time rather than another because two hours later, the light was clearly not the same on the carpets of leaves and the edges of the paths !

DSC_2101.JPG

DSC_2104.JPG

This is the path by which I emerge and the view of a vast pond which can be seen on my left...

DSC_2073.JPG

DSC_2077.JPG

DSC_2090.JPG

And in front of me, growing in size as I get closer, the Chartreuse du Valdieu, this ancient abbey stands firmly on the horizon of the landscape. In fact, after looking at a bit of the plans of the buildings of the time, they were much more extensive and vast.

But successive lootings and finally the French Revolution got the better of the place and all that remains today is the facade.

So that alone is already a real little manor and today it is a private estate which can only be visited on heritage days. For me, it will be next year.

DSC_2092.JPG

But now, the walk really begins because from the car, I haven't gone much more than 500 meters ^^ !

DSC_2112.JPG

We walk alongside the house where we would like to take a stroll, but it is without regret that we head further towards the pond which, if I am not mistaken, is also part of the domain of this old abbey.

DSC_2114.JPG

DSC_2120.JPG

Here is the particularly romantic path that leads us there and the trees backlit a little further on the meadow.

DSC_2129.JPG

Here is this pond closer and we can see a small cabin at the bottom which could suggest that we are in the Scandinavian countries or in Canada.

The fall colors are simply superb, even though the majority of the trees have already lost their leaves.

DSC_2135.JPG

This path, even blocked in such an avoidable way, is not the one we will take ^^

DSC_2139.JPG

DSC_2144.JPG

Here is the pond, its diffuse reflections on the water and its little cabin which we are getting closer to. All his images were taken with my D5500 camera which I take everywhere now. This one is still equipped with the same lens, the 35mm which is anyway the only one I have with me and with which I am fully satisfied !

DSC_2157.JPG

DSC_2156.JPG

A few mushrooms on the side of the road... Mycologist friends, it's time to share your knowledge with us and tell us if I missed a good fry or a difficult and potentially fatal night in the hospital ^^ !

DSC_2149.JPG

A small bench with green wood available to everyone to admire the view and the few waders that I decided not to take photos of since I was armed...

DSC_2164.JPG

Here we are as we pass the small cabin with its completely wooden roof. We could imagine coming to swim there in the middle of summer and enjoying the water and the warmth of the sun, right ?

DSC_2174.JPG

DSC_2177.JPG

DSC_2178.JPG

But the path continues, no longer on the edge, but in the forest itself.

DSC_2182.JPG

With its discoveries and other plant and visual riches for those who want to take the time to look around.

DSC_2187.JPG

DSC_2193.JPG

DSC_2207.JPG

I arrive at the place called "La Vigne" and the further I go on the path, the more I realize that it is completely private and so I end up turning back...

DSC_2188.JPG

DSC_2191.JPG

This still allowed me to discover this tree and its few fungus "parasites". As before, I don't have the slightest idea what species it could be...

DSC_2200.JPG

DSC_2210.JPG

On the way, I will also have come across these other ponds...

DSC_2215.JPG

DSC_2211.JPG

And this beech stump in bad shape, but from which we understand that other trees have left. In fact it's the same tree, and each trunk, its members in a way...!

DSC_2220.JPG

DSC_2221.JPG

DSC_2225.JPG

Here we are now on the road which forms a loop and which takes me back to my car...

DSC_2241.JPG

I still found a piece of trash right next to the slightly wider space where I was able to park. So, I'm not the first to stop... even if we don't drink the same beers ^^

DSC_2235.JPG

In a slightly more pleasant style of discoveries and harvests, it is these few branches of fir, holly and ferns that I bring back to make a forest bouquet at home !

DSC_2263.JPG

And here is the abbey again as we leave...!

DSC_2272.JPG

DSC_2274.JPG

A little further on, I come across a place dedicated to garbage and so I religiously place my can in its place and take the opportunity to do a small but honest action for the @cleanplanet project for which I had worked hard! Of course, I continue to collect, but it's just that I no longer necessarily take the time to make a dedicated article for each cleaning operation :)

And here we are at the end of this walk. I thank you for following me in the story that I wanted to tell and share about it and I hope that you will have enjoyed this adventure ! Thank you for your time and have a very nice day everyone,

<3

Yes, it's a real paradise, isolated enough to be free from modern nuisances ! The monks were great at finding places like this ^^

Thanks you @joanstewart for your visit and support :)

Monks worked hard in stunning places, most definitely had an eye as to positioning themselves in very select areas back then.

Such a lovely walk through the woods. Those mushrooms were a nice find but looks suspicious. 😀The abbey looks lovely and must be a nice place to visit any season. I am always amazed when someone leaves their garbage behind in nature. Thanks for doing your part for our planet.
Nice festive collection to beautify your home after such a nice walk.

Yeah, it was quite fairy indeed ! Those mushrooms, well... I didn't even touch them haha !

About the trash, it's also something that I never understood ! It's my girlfriend who will be happy to find this little collection when arriving :)

Thank you @momogrow 😇

What a beautiful walk, my friend! This forest reminds me of the Lord of the Rings. I think I miss the movie and I should watch it again. I'm playing the game right now haha. And you are also trying to keep the nature clean. Thanks for your effort :)

No, to be honest, I not very often afraid and I think never in wild spaces. But for sure, there is less dangerous animals or toxic insects here than in other parts of the world !

What a beautiful place and what a change to the scenery that I see behind the windows! 😊😍 It is snowing all day today. It's amazing, but I crave the autumnal colors.

I have always wanted to collect the garbage, but I'm so scared of the bacteria, germs, etc that could be on it that I rather leave it there unless I have a plastic bag, so that I don't have to touch it. Kuddos for your effort!

Hey @delishtreats !

and what a change to the scenery that I see behind the windows!

Oh, that must be beautiful 😇 !! I love when it snows, this reminds me so much tender childhood memories !

I've to say that I never thought about that, but for sure, I clean well my hands back at home. Even twice haha 😅

Thank you dear, I hope you'll enjoy the snow ✌️

Gorgeous. I can't wait to walk a European wood. I can smell the richness of soil and rotting leaves from here.

Have to say the bracket fungus polypore on the tree isn't necessarily parasitic in the traditional sense. Some say they even help the tree. Some oaks hundreds of years old have hollow trunks (they eat the heart wood) which people say help with stability!

Ah, I didn't know about that ! I put that between " " because I don't like to see relationships like this :) What you're telling me even more confirm me that !
