First Forest Walk of the Year, on and off the Trails

avatar

Hi everyone, dear friends and Hivers ! I hope the year is off to a good start for you ! Once again, as is accepted for the month of January in general, I'd like to wish you all the best :)

Today, I'd like to invite you to the first walk of the year, but as dates can be deceiving, I'm going to confess that it's actually the last one we did on the afternoon of 31 December...

DSC_0008.JPG

DSC_0014.JPG

DSC_0023.JPG

The weather was fine and rain was forecast for later in the day, so we decided not to take the car and just set off on foot from the house... The points I wanted to reach weren't along any footpaths, so we decided to set off across the fields !

DSC_0011.JPG

Here, behind the coppice, is a house typical of this part of Normandy, with its brick door and window surrounds.

DSC_0019.JPG

No, that little speck above the crown of the trees is not a speck of dust on your screen, but a bird of prey in full flight over the silent forest.

DSC_0035.JPG

DSC_0056.JPG

But here we are, in the forest...

DSC_0043.JPG

DSC_0046.JPG

The slope was quite long but not too hard and, in any case, how could it be tiring to walk with the sun in front of you, playing between the trees and producing these vivid alternations of light and shadow ?

DSC_0113.JPG

DSC_0114.JPG

One of the things that makes these walks both exciting and peaceful is always the trees ! I'll never cease to be moved by these organisms that can live for millennia in peace and symbiotic exchange.

Each crown of each tree respects its neighbors, and I imagine that this is often a little difficult to imagine for humans, who sometimes alternate between too great a distance and too great proximity, but rarely a balance between the two...

DSC_0097.JPG

DSC_0048.JPG

DSC_0105.JPG

The walk continued and we arrived on the outskirts of this house that I wanted to see a little closer ! We stayed under cover so as not to disturb the people and after a few moments, we set off again...

DSC_0150.JPG

Discovering an alley in a plot of artificially planted fir trees. I love these long corridors, which remind me of the burrow in Alice in Wonderland, and you can tell that you won't be quite the same when you come out !

DSC_0156.JPG

DSC_0160.JPG

DSC_0168.JPG

The first signs of logging appeared after we left the avenue of fir trees...

DSC_0172.JPG

DSC_0178.JPG

DSC_0181.JPG

We came across one of the roads running through the forest, but we didn't stay there long... Just across the road, a new route, just like the new year that's just around the corner, opens up before us !

DSC_0183.JPG

DSC_0191.JPG

DSC_0195.JPG

I hope that this year it will be slightly less rectilinear than that alley, even if the visual effect with the sunbeam is striking !

DSC_0205.JPG

DSC_0216.JPG

DSC_0219.JPG

DSC_0210.JPG

Finally, we reach the pile of wood that we've been seeing on the horizon for quite some time. I'm still wondering if it's just for firewood, but I think it must make up a good part of it...

DSC_0225.JPG

DSC_0226.JPG

DSC_0232.JPG

DSC_0235.JPG

Back on the road, we passed a number of different crossroads, some with signs and some without... The one above, particularly poetic " Half Moon Crossroads "...

DSC_0243.JPG

DSC_0247.JPG

DSC_0249.JPG

DSC_0259.JPG

We resume our walk on a more natural path that follows the slopes of the landscape. We come across this charming little wooden hut, which tells us that we are not far from a hamlet...

DSC_0277.JPG

DSC_0268.JPG

DSC_0280.JPG

Just a few minutes later, we pass through this small group of houses...

DSC_0287.JPG

DSC_0286.JPG

Bucolic views of green fields, agricultural facilities and, above all, that old tractor you can see in the second image...!

DSC_0307.JPG

DSC_0298.JPG

After the hamlet, back into the forest...

DSC_0318.JPG

DSC_0323.JPG

DSC_0322.JPG

Once again, we come across some majestic specimen trees, such as this chestnut tree which is several meters in diameter and whose bark reveals the movements of its growth...

DSC_0326.JPG

DSC_0328.JPG

DSC_0329.JPG

New road, new hamlet, a few drops of rain on the way...

DSC_0349.JPG

DSC_0333.JPG

Our last finds before I run out of battery on my camera ? A ball of mistletoe on a branch, which will go over the fireplace this evening, and in a vast enclosure by the side of the path, a whole group of birds, geese, hens and above all, a pair of peacocks, who, curious, come towards us as I take their photo in this beautiful light at the end of the day !

And that's the end of my first/last walk of the year. I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for your visit !

I hope you enjoyed this one and thank you for your visit! I wish you all the best for the rest of the day, and take good care of yourselves,

Hello anttn,

Happy New Year. I see you've been having a lot of fun in the middle of the forest.... they are really very nice photos, to look at them in detail and to accompany you, but you have lied to us! It's the last hike, not the first as you said in the title. Hahaha... Kidding. You have been sincere.

Hi dear @nanixxx !

Many thanks ! Yeah, indeed, we switch a bit our schedule in the countryside to more strolls in the nearby forests :)

Hahaha... Kidding. You have been sincere.

Haha, always ! I've always been incapable of lying, it's a special skill of mine 😅

Have a very happy New Year, hope this one will be pleasant as successful to you 😘
