Refreshing Young Coconut Desserts With Oranges
Welcome to a refreshing dish from young coconut to improve your mood and calm you down.
Do you have a certain time to enjoy refreshing sweet desserts? Maybe on the weekend or as a reward when you achieve your goals. I realized that growing up, there were a lot of sweet things that I no longer admired so much.
Indeed, being an adult is complicated, also about my favorite taste. Do you guys feel that way too? I feel like I prefer sweet flavors mixed with a little sour or even mixed with bitter.
Likewise with my husband, he doesn't like desserts that are too sweet. So, this one will be a favorite for people who don't really like sweets but still have a sweet taste combined with a fresh sour taste.
Today I prepared desserts to enjoy when breaking the fast for my husband and me. We are used to fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.
I also had the idea to make desserts from young coconut. Also, orange juice. I still have a supply of young coconuts from my family garden. To make these desserts, I will use agar powder or vegan gelatin to create jelly in texture because my husband likes pudding in jelly texture.
KEEP COCONUTS IN ITS SHAPE
In the restaurants we have visited, they use the coconut shells to serve pudding. So, I will also do the same thing. I asked my husband for help to prepare young coconuts.
My husband removed the outer shell of the young coconut on the top and bottom. This requires strength and calm at the same time. We must ensure that the machete does not touch the inner shell of the coconut which could cause the coconut shell to leak. Because the shell of a young coconut is still not as strong as an old coconut.
Coconuts that have had the top and bottom skin removed look cute. They also feel lighter when lifted.
After that, I also asked my husband to open the top of the coconut shell. Also, remove all the coconut water inside. The top part will later be filled with pudding mixture.
Meanwhile, I prepared the oranges. I used green oranges which are usually used to make orange juice. The dominant taste of these oranges is sour. So, I will add sugar later. If you use sweet oranges, then you don't need to add any more sugar.
PUDDING INGREDIENTS
- 1 pack of agar powder
- 500 ml of young coconut water
- 300 ml of orange juice
- 100 grams of sugar
- (optional) pandan leaves
note: The amount of measurements for young coconut water and orange juice is adjusted to the amount of water measurements in the instructions for using agar powder on the back of the packaging. So, use more young coconut water. Make sure the amount of both does not exceed the recommended number of ml. If you add too much liquid stuff, it will make the powder fail to set into pudding.
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
Mix agar powder, pandan leaves, and young coconut water into a pan. Mix them together then cook them.
Bring the pudding mixture to a boil while continuing to stir. Make sure they really boil so that the mixture can set into pudding later.
Then, turn off the heat when they have boiled. Keep stirring the mixture to remove the hot steam.
Once the mixture is not too hot, then mix the orange juice into the pudding mixture. Stir them until evenly mixed.
Prepare coconut shells. You can also use a glass or pudding mold in general. Transfer the pudding mixture to the coconut.
Let them cool at room temperature. Then store it in the refrigerator before serving if you want to enjoy the pudding cold.
Even without placing them in the refrigerator, they can still be set into pudding. For my nephew, I usually give pudding that I don't store in the refrigerator.
SERVE
What beautiful-looking desserts. Also, refreshing. My husband likes this dish which is not too sweet because it has a sour taste from the orange juice.
Well, I like young coconut meat combined with orange pudding inside. Perfect in my taste buds. So, what about you, food lovers?
