Growing Water Spinach To Harvesting In My Little Garden
Gardening teaches us to work hard and stay patient to finally be able to harvest results. Unfortunately, from the point of view of money, gardening activities are considered meaningless compared to working to make money in large companies. Meanwhile, many small plots of land next to the house are left only for weeds to overgrow. What a shame.
I'm only human and I get a lot of life lessons from the phases of my life. When I was in my twenties, I migrated to the Indonesian capital (Jakarta City) I rented a small room in someone else's house to survive. I do not have the opportunity to do gardening activities. I was just busy working for a state-owned company at the time.
Right now, I'm a few days will be even 30 years. I've been a wife for a year now. I became more concerned about making use of even the slightest bit of bare land in my house. That's why I started gardening. Although, not easy as a beginner. It takes more motivation to keep going.
Starting With Planting Water Spinach
I planted water spinach (kangkung) to start a vegetable growing activity in the small garden beside my house. In Indonesia, we call water spinach with KANKUNG. Why water spinach (kangkung)? That's because water spinach is an easy vegetable to handle in my area. Also, it takes not too long to harvest them anywhere from 30-days to 40 days.
Water spinach (kangkung) is a type of vegetable that has crunchy stems. So it is very suitable for vegetables as a complement to serving protein and carbohydrates. Delicious served even if only by stir-fry method.
In addition, water spinach (kangkung) can be harvested repeatedly if it is harvested by not removing the roots. So, it is very profitable especially for home production.
Planting Seeds Directly In Soil
Another advantage of growing water spinach is that we can plant it directly in the ground without seeding. It is also called a water plant because it can be grown in water without the need for special care. Just like wild plants.
I loosened the ground first because it had not been used for planting plants for a long time.
I used a hoe to soften the ground texture. Also, I have to clean the weeds growing around my garden.
After that, I can immediately spread the water spinach (kangkung) seeds onto the ground that has been prepared.
These are the seeds of water spinach (Kangkung) which look bigger than the seeds of other vegetable crops.
After finishing sowing, water them regularly or according to soil conditions. But I don't water them every day. Even though it's a hot area, the area where I live has rainfall every day. Lucky me.
Time to Harvest Water Spinach
After exactly 30 days, my water spinach is ready to be harvested. It looks so fresh and beautiful! I can't wait to cook them!
I don't fertilize at all. So they're organic. Because it is not fertilized, water spinach leaves look with holes.
Grasshoppers really like to eat my water spinach leaves. Which means that these vegetables are fresh and pesticide free. Bugs love them!
I'm already prepared with my harvesting equipment! I used a bamboo basket and a pair of scissors.
I'm not going to pull out water spinach (kangkung) by the root. I'm just going to cut their stems using a pair of scissors. Their stems are also crunchy, so it's easier to cut their stems.
After the water spinach stems are cut, new shoots will grow. If they are not cut, they will become vines and begin to take root to propagate themselves.
I can harvest them whenever I want. They won't rot if I harvest them late. Their young stems will also always grow again. So, very profitable!
I got a basket full of water spinach. In fact, I was only able to finish half of them cooking for one day. While the other half I gave to my mother-in-law.
In my next blog, I will share food recipes with water spinach ingredients. See you!
Thank you for reading my blog and reblog if you want my blog this time worthy of reading by others.

How are you dear friend @anggreklestari good afternoon
What you say is very true, how can there be people with land available and they do not take the trouble to grow their own food
Excellent harvest, congratulations
have a beautiful weekend
At the first, indeed feels so heavy to work at land. but once you did it, you will be enjoying gardening activities 😊
Have a great weekend
It's really a benefit of growing this vegetable that we direct plant it in soil.
indeeed. Less effort and save energies😊
Yes 😄
Water spinach - I have never tried this vegetable, just the regular spinach which I really like. Having your garden and harvest from there is a treasure, you do it well! 👍 Oh, the grasshoppers also like it... oops. I hope they don't eat up all the leaves :D
I thought this one is just for fully rainy area 😅
No problem. Water spinach will grow faster so grasshoppers will eat fully too 😅
Plentiful harvest, @anggreklestari !
What does it taste like? I'm sure it is rich in minerals and vitamins!
!PIZZA

You say you are a beginner, and maybe you are right, but from the beginning you even knew what to plant first, like water spinach which is easy to grow in your area and has a fast growth, so to me that already tells me you have that gift, plus your remarkable desire to garden.
The few times I have managed to visit you I always leave very happy after reading you because I admire everything you share in Hive, the food and now this passion, that just today I also honor the care of the plants in Hive, and that was rare for me a year ago. You look beautiful dressed in blue, I almost always find a lot of pink in your profile and your posts, but it's nice to see other facets of you just now that in Venezuela everyone wears pink in honor of a movie 🤣 The feminine dress in your country is a work of art for me. I wish you an excellent weekend!...
In fact, I often use black too in my post 😅
Thank you so much for your positive feedback
To start with, let me congratulate you in advance, happy birthday to you in advance, your face still look so radiant like you were still in your 20's😃😃. Well life has got alot to make us learn but I am happy you didn't let that pull you back. Now you are a wife and you have your own roof on your head. The results from your garden, loos so fresh, I love it so much.. Kudos dear friend..
Glad I still seems 20' 😅
Yeah, that was inspection
It is true that even when I go inside my father and call all the things that are cooked, it feels very good because all these things are planted with great effort and a long time of work is done on them. It is done especially on vegetables etc.
Harvesting time makes us satisfying 🙂
Yeah.

I enjoyed seeing how you grew your kangkung and harvested it. It seems like a good choice from what you say, to get you started into growing some of your own food. When I had a place to grow some vegetables and the such in the past, I always thought they tasted better than what I bought.
I wonder what you will plant next !
Rain will makes they better. No rain, oh their taste like no crunchy in texture ehehe
I will continue with mustard greens and chilli.
Nice little harvest and I haven't tried water spinach. Look forward to seeing it in your recipes :)
I'm really happy with those gift from nature 😊
It's great to see you being able to grow water spinach in your garden. From this, I learned that it can be a great plant to have as one can harvest from it in a short time. This is actually my first time seeing kangkung seeds.
Those plants really help to full fill our daily food 😊
And they are healthy too❤
We also call thise vegetable kangkonv and yeah they are so easy to grow. We have a certain recipe for this called adobong kangkong which is really delicious.
Whoa you have same name there 😊
lovely post, i have a friend here that has suggested kangkong, i like green leafy vegetables they are so versatile in a lot of recipes. Anything that is a "spinach" style vegetable i like to try.
thanks for sharing and reminding me that it is still "on the list" to try.
thanks so much
happy gardening.
Yeah kangkung is so effortless to grow in my area. I hope one day you can be able to find kangkung there
I love to hear your love story, and I know your hard work deserve the best. Dear, your water spinach looks so healthy! It's so unique that it can be growing directly in the ground without seeding. Now in Indonesia would be a great place for gardening. Keep up the good work 👍🌿
Indonesia has beautiful soil of course
Thank you 😊
Here of course going to work, will bring more money to buy vegetables as you can get from using the same time for gardening.
But still I see so much more healing benefits from digging in the earth and harvest from your own land.
Never had water spinach, hope I dont miss your cooking post :-)
Agreed with healing properties 😊
Oh, we have this in our place also. This is one of my favourites ever. Easy to plant and harvest. So yummy when it is being cooked.
Their Stem are crunchy when we stir-fry them ❤️ I love it
Indeed, we have done it too here mixed with egg. Super delicious!
This post is a master class for novice amateur gardeners.
It was very interesting to look at your photos.
I've never seen this plant before, we just don't grow it here.
Thank you very much, dear, for the new knowledge you have gained.
And I wish you to turn a small piece of land near the house into a real blooming garden.
Looking forward to seeing the dishes you make with that spinach.
Greetings from Spain

Spectacular dish.
Now that it's lunchtime in Spain I'm craving spinach even more, and even more so with the rest of the dish you've prepared.
Have a nice day.
Maybe you can made dish with your local veggies there
Have a great day!
My cooking skills are somewhat limited and I tend to spend more days away from home than at home.
These holidays I will try to make some tasty food from local vegetables but I don't know what the result will be.
Best regards and congratulations.
