Photography Insect : Leaf-legged Animal

There are many attractive insects in the garden, many of which are neither friend nor foe, so we gardeners mostly ignore them. When we come across leaf-legged insects in the garden, it's hard to know what to think

Leaf-legged insects (Family Coreidae) will catch your eye when some of these large insects congregate on trees or garden plants. Many members of this family have visible leaf-like extensions on their hind tibia, and this is the reason for their common name.

Members of the family Coreidae tend to be quite large, with the largest reaching nearly 4 cm in length. North American species usually range 2-3 cm. Leaf-legged insects have a relatively small head compared to the body, with a four-segmented beak and four-segmented antennae. The pronotum is both wider and longer than the head.

The bodies of leaf-legged insects are usually elongated and often dark in color, although tropical species can be quite colorful. The forewings of the coreid have many parallel veins, which you should be able to see if you look closely.
