There was a caught!

I and James have been married for over 10 years now, and he has been my perfect man in an imperfect world, James was the only man who saw my flaws and was ready to stand by me, but then this deception happened a few hours ago and I started to think things over,

"Why did you lie to me?" I asked James while I stood at the door wondering if I should walk out of the door or hear him out, I couldn't stand the thought that our marriage had been built on lies in these years.

"Annie, I truly am sorry, please can we talk it out?" James said wearing a remorseful look.

"Okay, shoot!" I snapped back.

"Annie, while we were in high school, I have always loved you and I notice how you visited the coffee shop beside the school campus, I knew if I could pretend to like coffee we could have a common ground to start up a conversation, so I decided to pay a friend Dan to teach how to make cappuccino and each time I see you come around I ensured I was the one who made your coffee so that you could notice me even though I hated the smell of coffee too, truth is I never really liked the how the other guys in campus treated you but I overheard you saying a guy who doesn't like or knows how to make coffee is a deal breaker for you, so I pretended." James honestly told me why he lied.

Truth is, he was right the reason I chose to be friends with him in the first place was that I knew he loved coffee, especially cappuccino, and every time I visited the coffee shop he wore this wild smile that swept me off my feet.

We became friends for two years and got married, it's been 10 years of bliss and a few downs but today, we've always shared our morning coffee on the dining table which strengthens our bond every day, but today I stumbled on James secretly switching his cup of coffee for hot-dyed water and then I wondered why he had to do that.

"If there wasn't a caught, would you eventually tell me the truth someday?", I asked James.

" It's been a burden in my heart to wear this charade for a long time knowing how much you believed in me, but everything I did wasn't to hurt but to show you a better way to be loved, I knew someday I might get caught as there's nothing hidden under the sun, but I never saw it coming so soon. I truly am sorry, I am allergic to coffee but I chose to make you happy wearing this pretense over the years Annie."

Those words melted my heart as I looked into his eyes, I knew all he did was for love, was to save me from the other guys on campus and to show me a better way to be loved.

"Things we do for love huh?" I snapped back. "Yeah Annie, things we do for love" James wore a grin. We both busted into laughter and then I realized one man's meat could be another man's poison.

"So tell me, what exactly do you love?" I asked the love of my love sincerely as I was willing to accommodate his flaws since he could be selfless for many years just to prove his love for me.

James, feel free to be yourself henceforth, when I take my coffee take whatever you love, I will love you either way. We hugged and laughed it off since I realized the motive behind his action wasn't shady, it was to keep me happy every morning.
