99TH EDITION OF LADIES OF HIVE CONTEST: GETTING JUSTICE FOR WOMEN

So many women suffer in bad marriages especially here in the third world countries because there is no solid law that protects the women and Children.

In advanced countries, when couples fight it is the man that leaves the house for the woman and children but over here the reverse is the case.

Some of these men call themselves Alfa-males demanding submission from their poor wives when in truth what they want from them is slavery kind of marriage where the women are expected to take and swallow anything thrown at them.

When a man is caught cheating, the woman is expected to pray and not chose confrontation for fear of loosing her marriage or in some worst case be thrown out of the house.

When a man abuses a woman physically she is expected to take it all in good heart and even apologise after all the husband is her god who can hit her to correct her.

Some of these men abandon their children for their wives to take care of and when the child is all grown and doing well they would show up to reap where they did not sow.

Luckily for women, there are laws, organisations and agencies that the government and non- governmental organisations set up to help them get justice for any kind of abuse or injustice. Sadly not many women knows about these laws and organisations thus still being subjected to all manner of ill treatments in the society.

Welfare Department This is managed by the government that help people who have personal, domestic or work related problems. This department have helped a lot of women to get justice for women.

Police The Nigeria police sometimes do not offer any good justice for women but atleast women can open up a case and file their reportS there with enough evidence both in pictures and audios. This would be useful in court especially during custody battle.

Social Media Social media is a powerful tool that cuts across barriers. A woman once posted about her story on her she was manhandled on social media and it got more than a thousand shares that very day. The perpetrators were caught tye next day and brought to book.

Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development This is a department that promotes the development of women with equal right to social,economic
and Wealth creation.

Non Governmental Organisations There are many NGOs that are established to protect women and offer them shelter until they are strong enough to face the world again. I know of one in Port-Harcourt and Lagos.

I found out that there is an urgent need to carry out sensitisation on this topic most especially in the rural areas where women are not educated and have no access to the internet. They need to know that they are never alone and that there many organisations that are open to them out there where they will get the help they need.

Thus i spoke to the wife of the Local government chairman in Aniocha community to include it to her talk in seminar she titled A message to women

Together we drafted her message and she did an amazing job explaining explicitly to the grassroot women of the many help that is available to them to get justice for themselves and their children.
