Through the charming old town

Olten is centrally located on the Jura foothills along the Aare river here you can finde not only the charming old town or the Aare river, as well as many excursions, hikes and bike tours possibilities in a pleasantly natural surrounding with beautiful forests. First the famous wooden bridge, I will write some more about it.

The Aare river is one of the most important rivers in Switzerland. It is with its about 314 kilometers the longest river flowing completely in Switzerland. Flows through the cantons of Bern, Solothurn as well as Aargau, is also loved for a variety of activities, such as boat trips, walks along the shore, visits to the gorge of the Aare, trips tours or swimming. In addition, it is used for power generation.

It was just a festive day with many pubs and fine street food from all over the world.

A small pretty city, the first document as a city is even mentioned in 1265.

Now back to the wooden bridge, which connects the two banks of the Aare River for more than 700 years, it was first mentioned in a document in 1295. It has had to suffer many disasters, it had to be repaired several times or even completely rebuilt. This was mainly caused by floods, fire but also during wars. Last year the fire department had to go to the bridge several times. Over the centuries, the bridge has been burned several times.
