Strolling in Basel on an autumn day
The town hall is situated in old town on the Markt Place in Basel, which was built around the 16th century. Inside as well as outside has wonderful colorful paintings as well as sculptures.
Here you can see the way from the train station to the old town very easy to reach by streetcar, or even by foot in about 10 minutes.
When the bell rings on the tower of St. Martin's Church. Everywhere on the fairgrounds, from one moment to the next, the market starts, with lots of stands and street food specialties and more. Itwas this year again the largest amusamente fair in Switzerland.
The tradition of the Basel Autumn Fair goes back to a long, exciting history that began in the 15th century and started with an emperor, a pope and a committed mayor. Old traditions are still an integral part of the Basel Autumn Fair today, here are a few pictures from last week.
The fair, which takes place every year in the autumn, runs for two weeks, time enough for many people to visit. Basel is also very attractive thanks its location on the border with France and Germany.
Here we see the Basel Minster Church in Basel, Switzerland. If you look closely, you can see a patch of white sandstone blending in with the red at the base of the facade of the left bell tower, which is part of the originally church that was finally built around 1019. The church, which is now Protestant, was rebuilt after it was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1356. The last tower with a clock and a sundial it was completed in 1500.
