A stroll through Solothurn
Even if you just pass by here, you will immediately feel like a tourist. The city is considered the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland.
As well as Bern, Solothurn has also its bells, it is one of the oldest building in the city, being built at the beginning of the 13th century. On each side of Solothurn's clock tower you see one clock there are four clocks in all, which announce the day, month and year.
Here in picture the St. Ursen Cathedral a most important Swiss building of the early classicism in light Solothurn marble was constructed in eleven years.
The imposing staircase leads to the cathedral in three sets of eleven steps. Inside there are eleven altars and the tower is six times eleven meters high and has eleven bells. The magic number 11 is sacred here in Solothurn, you can finde 11 churches and chapels, 11 fountains and 11 towers and much more that reminds of the number 11.
Here is one of the bridges over the Aare, river which flows completely in Switzerland. It flows through the cantons of Bern, Solothurn and Aargau until it runs into the Rhine.
The city is devided by the river Aare into a northern and a southern part with the Jura mountains in the background.
From here are diverse activities trips by bike possible.
