Excursion to the Palude Park, Onara, Padova - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

I had just had lunch and was looking for a new place not too far away to visit. As I often do, I started looking for something interesting on Google Maps and this time my gaze fell on the Palude di Onara Park, an oasis of nature and history nestled in the province of Padua.

Avevo appena pranzato e cercavo un posto nuovo non troppo distante da visitare. Come faccio spesso, mi sono messo a cercare su google maps qualcosa di interessante e il mio sguardo questa volta è caduto sul Parco della Palude di Onara, un'oasi di natura e storia incastonata nella provincia di Padova.

I had heard about this place through passionate stories and I wanted to personally live the experience of exploring its paths among the flora and fauna, immersing myself in its atmosphere rich in history.

Avevo sentito parlare di questo luogo attraverso racconti appassionati e volevo vivere personalmente l'esperienza di esplorare i suoi sentieri tra la flora e la fauna, immergermi nella sua atmosfera ricca di storia.

The journey began with a peaceful journey from Castelfranco Veneto towards the Park. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the sight of a quiet and serene landscape, a suggestive image that anticipated my encounter with the natural beauty of the place.

Il viaggio iniziò con un tranquillo tragitto da Castelfranco Veneto verso il Parco. Appena arrivato, fui accolto dalla vista di un paesaggio tranquillo e sereno, una suggestiva immagine che anticipava il mio incontro con la bellezza naturale del luogo.

Some buildings act as the entrance to the park, the place was almost deserted, absolute peace.

Alcuni edifici fanno da ingresso al parco, il posto era quasi deserto, una pace assoluta.

I began my exploration along the paths surrounded by lush vegetation. Nature surrounded me with its fresh scent, and the birds singing made the atmosphere even more enchanting. Along the way, I found myself crossing wooden walkways that meandered above the marsh, giving me a unique perspective on the surrounding landscape.

Iniziai la mia esplorazione lungo i viottoli immersi nella vegetazione rigogliosa. La natura mi circondava con il suo profumo fresco, e il canto degli uccelli rendeva l'atmosfera ancora più incantevole. Lungo il percorso, mi trovai ad attraversare passerelle in legno che si snodavano sopra la palude, regalandomi una prospettiva unica sul paesaggio circostante.

The real surprise, however, was when I came across the oratory of S. Margherita. This ancient building was the only remaining evidence of the castle of the Ezzelini lineage, one of the most important families of the Treviso area in the 11th century. Silence enveloped the area as I explored the historic site, imagining the past events that had shaped the place over the centuries.

La vera sorpresa, però, fu quando mi imbattei nell'oratorio di S. Margherita. Questo antico edificio era l'unica testimonianza rimasta del castello della stirpe degli Ezzelini, una delle famiglie più importanti della Marca Trevigiana nell'XI secolo. Il silenzio avvolse l'area mentre esploravo il sito storico, immaginando le vicende passate che avevano plasmato quel luogo nel corso dei secoli.

During my walk, I came across educational boards along the routes, which provided me with interesting information on the flora and fauna present in the Park. I learned to recognize the different species of aquatic plants and birds that populated the area. It was an educational and engaging experience that further enriched my journey.

Durante la mia passeggiata, mi imbattetti in tabelloni didattici lungo i percorsi, che mi fornirono interessanti informazioni sulla flora e la fauna presenti nel Parco. Imparai a riconoscere le diverse specie di piante acquatiche e gli uccelli che popolavano la zona. Era un'esperienza educativa e avvincente che arricchiva ulteriormente il mio viaggio.

Through a pedestrian tunnel I crossed the Tergola river which originates from the outcrop of a water table connected to the Brenta river.

Attraverso una galleria pedonale ho attraversato il fiume Tergola che trae origine dall'affioramento di una falda freatica collegata al fiume Brenta.

Once I reached the other side of the river I decided to follow it encouraged by that natural environment.

Una volta raggiunta l'altra sponda del fiume ho deciso di percorrerla incoraggiato da quell'ambiente naturale.

At this point I focused on the chromatic particularity of these paintings with their purple stems in contrast with the light blue sky.

In questo punto mi sono soffermato per la particolarità cromatica di queste painte dal fusto violaceo in contrasto con il cielo celeste.

At a certain point I passed by a stable with lots of cows intent on eating. It was located on the other side of the river and there must have been a hundred cows!
The smell wasn't fabulous but I only had to plug my nostrils for a minute :)

Ad un certo punto sono appassato vicino ad una stalla con tantissime mucche intente a mangiare. Era situata sull'altra sponda del fiume e ci saranno state un centianio di mucche!
L'odore non era favoloso ma ho dovuto tapparmi le narici solo per un minuto :)

The beauty of this park was not only in its uncontaminated nature, but also in its connection with history. It was an afternoon of discovery and serenity. I promised myself to return in late spring to see nature in all its splendor.

La bellezza di questo parco non era solo nella sua natura incontaminata, ma anche nella sua connessione con la storia E' stato un pomeriggio di scoperta e di serenità. Mi sono promesso di ritornarci a primavera inoltrata in modo da vedere la natura in tutto il suo splendore.

There are many parking lots.
There are BBQ stations but I think you need to book.
