Square - Largo da Porta Nova - Barcelos City | Portugal
Hello everybody :)
Today i revisit the visit i recently made to the city of Barcelos, to share another very interesting place, this time located right in the city center, known as Largo da Porta Nova, this place transports us to a time when architectural grandeur of the 18th century is evident in every detail of the monuments that dot that impressive scenery, with a historical grandeur that takes on a new dimension during the Christmas effervescence, transforming into a spectacle of lights, colors and joy that infects those who pass by.
I am the most faithful witness to this contagion, since i am not a big fan of this era, and even so i felt a little dazzled, at times even a little nostalgic, bringing back brief memories from my childhood.
In fact, this itinerary was carefully planned to coincide with the Christmas season, which turned out to be an unforgettable journey.
In a way, for those who like taking photographs, as is my case, you will find in these moments ideally crafted and illuminated scenes in order to obtain some very interesting records, some of which are even memorable, those that we end up keeping private ;)
There, the gardens surrounding Largo da Porta Nova are generous spaces filled with enchanting botanical exuberance, transforming into an even more vivid palette of colors during this season.
The lush vegetation, intertwined with the twinkling lights, create a magical atmosphere that transcends that first glance. Walking through those gardens is like entering an imaginary scene, where nature and architecture come together to form an enchanting visual spectacle.
There i met tourists from different parts of the world, eager to witness the Christmas beauty of Barcelos. The influx of visitors contributed to the effervescent atmosphere, but did not compromise the feeling of exclusivity that this unique place offers.
I ended up being somewhat surprised, because although i found a lot of people there, unlike other places i visited, it was easy for people to move around without having to bump into each other.
One of the central pieces of this Christmas spectacle was the monumental Christmas tree made entirely of lights, supported by a metal structure that ends up going unnoticed when all the lights come on, rising majestically in the heart of Largo da Porta Nova, becoming the epicenter of attention, being visible from several meters away.
Practically all the buildings around Largo da Porta Nova were adorned with the typical bright lights, creating a fascinating atmosphere that extended throughout the square. The contrast between the historic architecture and the lights resulted in a unique visual fusion, where the past and present intertwined harmoniously.
As i explored this stunning setting, absorbing the history that emanated from the monuments and immersing myself in the Christmas effervescence, i understood that Barcelos during Christmas is more than a simple tourist trip. It is an immersion in a unique sensory experience, where architecture, nature and celebration come together to create unforgettable memories, and where a photographer can easily get lost in an endless world of probabilities, of scenarios meticulously planned to provide a fantastic visual experience.
Finally, i would also like to take the opportunity to refer to 3 historical points located in that place, with emphasis on the Church of Bom Jesus da Cruz, also known as the Church of the Lord of the Cross, built between 1705 and 1710, being one of the best examples of architecture Baroque style with Italian influence in the country.
In the middle of the Square is the famous Fountain Do Largo Da Porta Nova, a piece that has its origins in the Convent of Vilar de Frades and was offered by the Order of Padres Lóios to the Municipality of Barcelos in 1966, having been installed there.
At the other end, we have the medieval tower, one of the 3 main doors of a wall that was built at the beginning of the 15th century around Barcelos to protect the city.
Like these, there are many more fragments of medieval architecture, all over the city, which is fascinating to me.
That´s all for today :)
Hope you like it.
