A Walk Through Arcos de Valdevez - Viana do Castelo | Portugal
Hello everybody :)
Today we're going for a walk around the small village of Arcos de Valdevez.
Located an hour from Porto and at the gates of Gerês (which we love so much), this Minho village is full of charm and many surprises.
The best time to visit Arcos is in the warmer months between May and September.
We begin our walk along the riverside area, which on hot days (which summer is already here) allows us to enjoy the calm of the Vez River and rest a little in the shade that we find along the way.
Here we can also see the Valletta river beach and the Pedestrian Bridge. We took advantage and went down to the river to feed the ducks that were walking there. It's always a good bet when we have kids and the ducks thank you too :)
We went up to the avenue again where we managed to enjoy a bit of a concert that was being given by locals with accordions and even castanets! It's been years since I've seen or heard castanets playing live and the sound continues to be equally spectacular.
Further ahead we come across an imposing statuette of a knight.
They explained to us that this statue is a tribute to one of the most important episodes in the founding of the Portuguese nation and dates back to the Battle of Arcos de Valvedez. This story is also told in the tiles of the famous São Bento Station in the heart of the city of Porto.
Further ahead we reach the Old Bridge which lights up at night and is delightful to just watch.
I love cities that are lit up at night, as they seem to become more welcoming.
In big cities we can't see many places with this dynamic, which ultimately end up looking a little romantic.
But look at the photos and tell me how it makes you feel.
We continue further into the village, which is characterized by its Baroque architecture.
We breathe fresh air wherever we go and once again, even though this is a more populated village than those we have shown here, the art of slowliving prevails.
Quiet streets, wonderful cuisine and surrounded by mountains is this village.
We couldn't miss the historic center where you can see the Santa Casa da Misericórdia as well as the Igreja da Misericórdia and the cross that stands in front of it.
But be aware that this is not the only church. There is also the Main Church and the Calvário Chapel.
There is another monument that aroused our interest and even led to some fun, which is the water clock. It is located in the center of Largo da Lapa.
After the study visit, we chose to have dinner at Riva Café overlooking the river.
That's all for today, I hope you enjoyed it.

Always remember:
Value your time, because every fraction counts, and the price of anything is the amount of life you trade for it.
May the memories of the travels be eternalized in the photographs, and may the photographs transport us back to the travels ;)
