Paper wasps' preferred habitat is grassland
Here are some macro pics I took that I thought the Fascinating Insects community might enjoy.
I walked around our city's Pusong reservoir this afternoon. There are many shrubs and green grassland on both sides of the road, which are undoubtedly insects' homes.
I decided to brush the grass since I thought there could be some fascinating insects there.
Yeah, I did see some paper wasps there. They are incredibly cute. While the other two wasps were in their nest; one of the wasps was alone perched on the grass, its jaws engrossed in chewing grass panicles.
I think that's the species of Ropalidia fasciata. This species was first described by the entomologist Fabricius in 1804. That's smaller than the genus Polistes, its close relative. That conclusion is confirmed by what I can see, at least.
