Okinawa Crab Spider (Thomisus okinawensis)
Thomisus okinawensis, the Okinawa crab spider, is a species of crab spider belonging to the family Thomisidae. It was first described in 1907 by Embrik Strand (2 June 1876 – 3 November 1947), a Norwegian arachnologist and entomologist. This species is distributed in the Ryukyu Islands (Japan), Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Some T. okinawensis are bright green, and some are white. Could the color difference indicate characteristics between males and females? I have no idea about that.
This one seems unique, perhaps also rare. Its head and feet are white with brown stripes. The abdomen is white with light green bands and is marked with seven dots on the back.
I think making feather duster flowers as camouflage terrain is a smart choice. The enemy, or prey, will not realize this trick.
What a beauty!!
Very impressive photos too :)
Thanks @ewkaw :)
SO beautiful om, I have never gotten a chance to find any crab spider yet.
but this one definitely an awesome species and a wonderful shot.
Thanks Om. In the garden behind your villa, there are crab spiders. You're just not lucky :D
