Hoverfly (Asarkina sp.)

Today I want to share some macro photo angles with the Fascinating Insects community.

Syrphidae is a family of flies belonging to the order Diptera. About 6000 species in 200 genera have been described by entomologists. Syrphidae was first described by Pierre André Latreille in 1802.

Commonly called hoverflies (because they hover when flying low), or also called flower flies, that's because they are a type of insect pollinator.

This is Asarkina sp. which was taken by me a few days ago. Asarkina is a genus of hoverflies belonging to the family Syrphidae. If you look physically, Asarkina is bigger than other genera. Actually, there is one more genus as large as Asarkina, namely the genus Eristalinus or commonly called the big-headed lagoon fly.
