[ENG-SPA] Some things I learned this week | Algunas cosas que aprendí en esta semana

This is my first post in this community. Here are a few things I learned this week.

Russell's teapot

Bertrand Russell once argued that, if someone were to propose that there is a very small teapot in orbit between Mars and the Earth, impossible to see with even the most powerful telescopes, and that this knowledge came from very old books and was taught in schools, then the burden of proof would not be on those who do not believe in the teapot, but on the Teapotists (to call them so to speak). It is an analogy, of course, with what happens with religions, and has certain similarities with "parody" religions, such as the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the invisible pink Unicorn.
This reminded me that, a few decades ago, scientists determined that the average colour of the universe is "cosmic latte". If Russell had not been British, perhaps he would have used a coffee pot instead of a teapot, and then teapotism (to be called coffeepotism) would have received a big boost from new scientific discoveries.

Chess openings with chemical names

There are two chess openings that have unofficial names related to chemical elements: the sodium attack and the ammonia opening. They are actually called the Durkin (Na3) and Amar (Nh3) openings, respectively, but are known by these names because of their similarity to the chemical formula of sodium (NA3) and ammonia (NH3). They are hardly used, to tell the truth. Magnus Carlsen, however, used the ammonia opening in a rapid game against Aleksey Dreev in 2018. And yes, of course, he won.

Many lakes

I knew that there are many lakes in Canada, but apparently there are more lakes there than anywhere else in the world.

Endangered

There are less than a thousand axolotls left.

Community

And finally, I learned that there is a community on Hive to publish posts like this one 🙂.

That's terrific! I hadn't heard of Russel Brand's teapot before, but certainly am aware of the idea of burden of proof.

Great post. Thanks for sharing!
