When And How To Plant Maize

Maize is a very important food that we should be aware of. Knowing when and how we can plant maize 🌽 should be considered a priority. In Africa, many use maize as a food why some use it as a supplement after the main food. Considering the important of maize in Africa, once it's the season of planting, we don't wait much but mean the business to cultivate for maize planting.

In Africa 🌍, we have a specific period for maize planting. The planting is usually from the month of March and April. The sense why most people in Africa prefer planting maize 🌽 from March and April is because it's usually the starting time of rain. We believe that the starting period of raining is usually good for maize survival and growth. This is why I took the opportunity to plant maize this year, but it was also an opportunity to participate in maize challange 2022 introduced @felixxx. I'm suggesting for another maize challange for the month 2023.

In Africa, some people may still plant maize 🌽 after March and April corn season. The thing there is that the maize may do well, but it'll not be compared to the one planted between March and April. Why the comparison is because after April, heavy rain will start to rain and before then the maize must have gotten enough root to stand the weave of winds and flood caused by rain. Maize planted after April may likely not survive and even if it does, it may not give out big maize seed for harvest.

A few days ago, I shared a post where I discussed about how I cleared weeds from my garden 🏡 and didn't know what to plant. I have made up my mind to plant maize with some of the little land space withing the garden.

How did I plant maize 🌽

Before considering planting of maize, the land space should be a priority, clearing the weeds should also be done properly.

We didn't have to cultivate the land before planting maize. Some land may not be necessarily cultivated before maize will be planted. It's because the land may be too soft for maize planting and sometimes maize can survive it growth without cultivating the land.

When we were done with the clearing of weeds and secured the land for maize planting, we can use cutlass to open the soil and then take three to four seeds of maize 🌽 to put inside the opened soil. If we have put the maize seed inside the opened soil, use hand or cutlass to cover the soil. Make sure not to press the soil.

When we were planting maize in the farm, we were blessed with a crap.
