Hello Fellow Hivers!
Hope all of you having a great weekend.

ABOUT THE RULE SET:

Monsters with ranged attacks cannot be used.

  • Monsters with 2 types of attack (which include ranged) cannot be used.

Ranged monsters are instrumental in creating line ups in splinterlands because of their high dame with high speed and having match winning abilities as well.
What if we take out ranged monsters out of the equation when we are forming a line up?That would make things quite interesting, right! And to give us an experience of exactly that, we have a rule set called BROKEN ARROWS.
For our today's battle, we will be talking about a Diamond League battle from the Modern format.

THE LINE UP :

PositionCardManaLevelDescription
Summoner46For this battle, we are playing a level 6 Kelya Frendul, one of the most popular summoners from Chaos Legion. The +1 to armor and +1 to speed makes it quite versatile and strong to be played in most of the rule sets.
Position 146At the first position, we are playing a level 6 Xenith Monk, the neutral monster from Chaos Legion that comes with 2 melee attack, 4 speed and 7 hp as base stats along with Void and Heal.
Position 246In the second position, we are playing another neutral card from Chaos Legion, Venari Spellsmith. At level 6, the card comes with 2 magic damage, 3 speed, 3 hp with Dispel and Amplify.
Position 338In the third position, we have decided to play a level 8 Pelacor Bandit. The 3 mana card comes with 3 melee damage 6 speed 4 hp along with Sneak and Flying.
Position 444Next, in the fourth position, we decided to play another magic monster from Chaos Legion. And this time we are playing a level 4 River Nymph with 1 magic damage, 3 speed and 3 hp with Cleanse and Amplify.
Position 535In the fifth position, we decided to play a pure support monster with very useful abilities of Tank Heal and Repair. The card we are talking about is a level 5 Merdaali Guardian.
Position 637In the sixth and last position we are playing a level 7 Cruel Sethropod with 2 melee damage, 2 speed, 5 armor and 6 hp.Though this card seems out of place, the only reason I am playing it in this position is to protect my line up against Sneak.

THE OPPONENT LINE UP :

PositionCardManaLevelDescription
Summoner43Unlike us, the opponent is playing Quix the Devious, the 4 mana Dragon summoner with -1 to range and -1 to speed debuff. Choosing a Dragon summoner will enable the opponent to choose between a wide range of monsters from Dragon as well as another splinter which happens to be Water splinter in this case.
Position 134In the first position the opponent chose to play a gold foil level 4 Cruel Sethropod, the same monster we are playing at the last position of our line up. At level 4, the card offers 2 melee damage, 2 speed, 4 armor and 4 hp.
Position 246In the second position, we are facing a level 6 Twilight Basilisk, the modern Reward card from the Dragon splinter with 2 melee damage 4 speed, 2 armor and 4 hp along with the abilities Reach and Stun.
Position 334In the third position, we are facing an Opportunity monster. Whelp Herder is one of the cards from the latest Riftwatchers mini set, a 3 mana Dragon monster with 2 melee damage, 2 speed and 5 hp at level 4.
Position 435Next, in the fourth position, we are facing a level 5 gold foil Vruz, the latest Promo card, with 1 melee damage, 4 speed and 3 hp as base stats. The card also has interesting abilities like Sneak and Martyr.
Position 546In the fifth position, we are facing a level 6 Dhampir Infiltrator, the reward card from the Dragon Splinter with 2 melee damage, 3 peed and 4 hp. The card's abilities Sneak Double Strike and Cripple makes it a great glass cannon.
Position 638In the last spot of the line up, the opponent is playing a card we are also playing, a level 8 Pelacor Bandit. With the high speed combined with Flying, the card can be hard to hit.

THE HIGHLIGHTS :

  • Round 1:

In the first round, we do not see any causalities from either of the teams and the battle looks quite evenly poised.

  • Round 2:

Round two starts brightly for us as our Pelacor Bandit takes out the Pelacor Bandit from the opponent line up from the first turn of the round. Situation became even better when our Vanari Spellsmith was able to take down the Cruel Sethropod from the first position of the opponent line up.

  • Round 3:

In this round, Vruz from the opponent line up took down the Cruel Sethropod from our last position. Later in the round though, we fought back as the River Nymph eliminated the Twilight Basilisk leaving the opponent team with 3 cards remaining.

  • Round 4:

The round starts off with our Pelacor Bandit getting it's second kill of the battle as he eliminated the dangerous Dhampir Infiltrator. The Opponent team however, fought back quite immediately as the Vruz was able eliminate the Merdaali Guardian to bag it's second kill as well. Soon, the River Nymph joins the 2 kills club as it took down the Whelp Herder and the opponent was left with 1 card which is Vruz.

  • Round 5:

Right at the start of the fifth round, we taste the sweetness of victory as like round 2 and 4, our Pelacor Bandit got a kill from the first turn and this time he bagged his third kill by taking out Vruz.

STRATEGY:
With the Broken Arrows rule set, we have all the low mana Ranged monsters out of the equation and we need to worry about Melee and Magic monsters to form a counter to the opponent line up. Since the battle also had Little League rule set, it was very likely that the opponent team will go heavy on low mana Sneak monsters and to counter the same, we placed a card with high armor and hp which happens to be the Cruel Sethropod and I have to admit that this was a great great decision even though the card could not attack from that position. And to counter any magic damage, we actually went with Xenith Monk with Void and Heal. As our main damage dealer we were heavily dependent on our Pelacor Bandit and the 2 magic monsters Venari Spellsmith and River Nymph will be the main front line damage dealers .

MVP:

CardKillsContribution
3The Pelacor Bandit proved to be the MVP of the battle bagging 3 crucial kills. All of it's 3 kills came from the first turn of the round courtesy of it's high speed which added to our advantage as this actually restricted the eliminated cards from taking their turn in the round altogether. Being a reward card, the Pelacor Bandit does not get the attention and value it deserves but this is undoubtedly the one of the best Sneak cards available in the game.
