Ted Washington Days Until Titans Football!! + Titans vs Cowboys Madden 23 Game
Ted Washington was a former outside linebacker who played for the Oilers for a decade from 1973-1982. Washington really had an impressive career for any player, but what makes Washington's career even more impressive is the fact that he was a 17th ROUND PICK in 1972!! That's insane. That's like being a super off the radar undrafted free agent today and becoming a ten year starter! There's only seven rounds in today's draft. Just nuts.
Washington would play his decade long career, entirely with Houston. He played in 128 games, starting 117 of those. He also played and started in 7 more playoff games
Washington would finish his career with 45 sacks, 7 interceptions, and 9 fumble recoveries.
His son would also go on to have a very good career in the NFL as a nosetackle.
Another Madden adventure for the history books. Against the Cowboys. Nothing new there, always a Cowboys user lurking.. LOL!
I still wonder why they had to rebrand the entire franchise. The Oilers were cool as hell.. Did you know that they called the Oliers home turf the house of pain?

That is strange they changed basically everything. They could have been the Tennessee Oilers as they were for two seasons in the 90's! Rumor has it they were going to be the 'Pioneers' before making some last minute changes. I didn't know about the House of Pain! I love that! I do know about their old slogan 'Luv Ya Blue'! They at least vaguely kept the same colors in the franchise change. Also, I there's rumors they will be bringing back Oilers throwback uniforms, maybe as soon as next season!
Here is a screenshot i just took of the Astrodome in Houston, of a 1989 game between Jim Kelly and the Buffalo Bills VS Warren Moon and the Houston Oilers, with the Words THE HOUSE OF PAIN on it.

That is SWEET! Man, the Titans need to bring this back!!
I think the Titans have used the throwback Uniforms a few times throughout the years right? The Throwback Uniforms are also available on Madden as well i think.
However, nothing comes remotely close to seeing those Uniforms used in the Astrodome or HOUSE OF PAIN. It was epic. The Oilers even a year after Warren Moon left were incredibly good. After Warren Moon they went with the backup Cody Carlson and he led the Oilers to a 14-2 season taking them to the post season and suffering a season ending growing injury. Cody Carlson was never the same i remember after that growing injury, and the Oliers were never the same again.

Yes, they have used them but it's probably been roughly a decade since they last used them. Wow, I love hearing the stories of the older times in the franchise. I don't think I've heard of Carlson before! Hopefully the Titans can find their next decade plus franchise QB soon.
Cody Carlson was inducted to the San Antonio Churchill High-School Hall of Fame in 1993. He played for the Baylor Bears in College, set a few records there and had impressive stats. He was a 3rd round pick in the NFL and played behind Warren Moon. However, after he became the starting QB when Moon departed, he had a fantastic season until the growing injury that cut his career short. I can only remember that being one season that he led the Oilers to a 14-2 or 15-1 record. Something crazy like that.
That's still a tremendous accomplishment! It's fun to imagine what could have been for Carlson. Thanks for the Oilers history. The franchise has had some decent QB's over the years. Here's a cool video with Tannehill + Moon having a chat, it's cool to see the Oilers-Titans connection! Wish McNair was still around, he was my childhood hero!
