NFL QB Rankings for 2023: #22 Mac Jones - New England Patriots QB

Mac Jones is pretty difficult to rank, but I like his upside.

Mac has dealt with the challenges of not only being a first round pick, but also with the challenge of replacing the GOAT in Tom Brady. He had a promising rookie season in 2021 when he led the Patriots to the playoffs and was named a Pro Bowler, followed by a rocky 2022. He enters his third season with a lot of pressure no doubt, but I think he's ready to have a nice season. I imagine he's learned a lot in those seasons and he's got a new much more competent offensive coordinator in Bill O'Brien to work with.

Some people might call me crazy for having Mac above Tua, this is simply how I see the league's QBs. I'd barely take Mac before Tua. Tua had a much better season than Mac in 2022, but Tua also had much better weapons on offense than Mac. Mac's also played virtually the same number of games as Tua despite Tua being drafted a year prior.

Mac is your typical pocket passer, he's got some wiggle similar to Joe Burrow but to a lesser degree. The guy is a field general type of player, reminds me of Peyton Manning in terms of play style, I am definitely not saying Mac is near the same level skill wise as Peyton, just in style of play. Good pocket presence, fair football IQ.

Mac has to get better pretty much everywhere, he needs to level up frankly. He is like at a journeyman level skillset through two seasons, he needs to start approaching a Kirk Cousins level of skill in 2023. Also needs to keep his composure better at times.

I think Mac is a hard worker and will have his best season in 2023.
