Gintoki is the hero of the story but he's not the traditional hero who fights for justice or has a lofty goal His just a lazy sweet loving shop owning young man who works at any job to survive But beneath this sarcastic exterior he's a powerful fighter and a true samurai ready to take on anyone if they're defending those he loves.

Along with him on the journey are Shinpachi the goodhearted boy trying to become a true samurai and Kauri the super powered alien who eats more than anyone else in the anime Together the three of them embark on crazy adventures every day from fighting ninjas to fighting criminals to engaging in wars beyond imagination.

One of the things that makes Gintama stand out is its unique comedy The anime breaks the fourth wall mocking other anime and sometimes even poking fun at itself You might find an episode mocking Attack on Titan followed by an episode presenting a powerful dramatic story that's truly heartwarming.
