Exploring the Charming Scarperia and San Pietro Market in Tuscany

Usually when I return to Tuscany, or pass through for work, I often have the fortune of stumbling upon beautiful markets. Sometimes they're just simple craft markets, while other times you might come across antique markets, which are truly important places for those who have this hobby. I must say, I was also fascinated by these antique markets for a while, always seeking something interesting to furnish my home. I think it's a wonderful thing to always find something unique to bring into one's home.

Today, I wanted to share some photos that I hadn't had the chance to share here before because I wasn't sure if it would be interesting to talk about this market. I happened to come across it in early April in the province of Florence. I'm talking about the Scarperia and San Pietro market, a place that I found quite unique for collectors, and very well-done indeed.

Scarperia and San Pietro is a municipality that ranks among the most beautiful villages in Italy. I discovered that it's actually a merger of two municipalities that took place about 10 years ago. This place is located about 30 km north of Florence, in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, and it's situated at a fairly hilly altitude. Besides being a beautiful place from an artistic and naturalistic point of view, as I understood it, they organize a market in the historic center here in April with exhibitors of crafts, collectibles, numismatics, objects, and much more.

That time, I was staying nearby in a hotel, and someone working there suggested I check out this market. I must say, I was quite impressed because there were quite a lot of people, which shows the interest in craftsmanship and collecting. I wandered around a lot, but didn't find anything interesting. I tried to negotiate for an old papyrus, but it didn't seem very original to me, and that's the problem with these markets – you never know if you're buying something original or a fake; you have to be very knowledgeable.

Anyway, beyond the market, this place is worth a visit because it's very beautiful. There are historic buildings like the Palazzo dei Vicari that are truly stunning and worth admiring.
