Exploring Venice: A Day of Discoveries

In today's post, I want to share a bit about what I did on Monday, which turned out to be a really interesting day. I went back to Venice after quite a while, and the reason was that my cousin, who works in London, wanted to visit Venice as he hadn't been there for a long time either.

We decided to go on Monday because Tuesday was forecasted to have bad weather. It's always better to visit Venice when it's sunny, and we were lucky because there weren't too many people. It's always better to visit on weekdays rather than holidays, even though they now have an entry ticket system, which they say reduces the number of people. But I don't think it makes much of a difference because all tourists who come from around the world still want to visit Venice since it's such a unique city.

Anyway, we spent the morning strolling through the streets, admiring the beautiful palaces and the unique constructions you come across during a walk. Then we decided to take a ferry to the Lido of Venice, where they hold the film festival. You've probably heard of it because it's quite famous worldwide. It wasn't too hot that day, and it wasn't very sunny either, so there was hardly anyone there. Typically, this part of Venice is where the locals go to swim or sunbathe on the beach.

My cousin insisted on visiting this part of Venice, which is probably the least touristy. You could tell by the small number of people around.

We walked a bit through the residential areas of the Lido, which are somewhat similar to the typical houses you find on Burano and Murano islands.

However, we had skipped lunch because we had a pretty big breakfast, so around midday, we grabbed a quick sandwich. We decided to go to a typical Venetian trattoria because I wanted my cousin to try some fish specialties, as they're excellent at cooking fish here. I checked some reviews, but I usually go with my instincts rather than trusting what people write. So I entered this trattoria, and we started ordering different dishes, and I must say, the quality of the food was truly high. I wouldn't have expected that from a place that, at first impression, seemed a bit off. But everything was really good, especially the fried dishes, which were perfectly cooked and not greasy at all, unlike what I've experienced in other restaurants.

With our bellies full, we then drove back to Milan, happy to have made this trip to Venice, which I still consider a unique city. I must say, despite the heavy tourist traffic, it was quite clean.
